6. I was on the island of Crete many years ago

there was this bar......

about half Greek men, running to older gentelmen, half tourists, AirForce guys from the base down the road

had those two and many other excellent songs on it; never can hear all day music, or darkness without thinking of that place

my friend had this gorilla mask that he'd bring in, and put on, dance to certain songs; had to see it for the effect--pretty amazing

then, after a few weeks of this, the bar owner said he couldn't wear the mask anymore; he made him CHECK it when we came in

we asked him why, and how come he didn't like it anymore

he said, and I'll always remember the look on his face....pained....
"I LOVE that mask!" but, he explained, his regular Greek customers HATED it. It scared the crap out of them, and they threatened to stop coming to the bar anymore, AND ostracize him, which he could not abide.

So, from then on, everytime we came in, he had to give him the mask until we left

he made him NOT WEAR it until we were outside; very strict about that
