Natalie Portman on GMA this morning
Was wearing a John Kerry t-shirt and Diane Sawyer tried to get her to cover it up. Natalie didn't go for it and proceeded to tell why she likes John so much. Yet another reason to be hopelessly in love with her. Talent, brains, beauty and principles.

You can download the clip from NataliePortman.com

2. Diane Sawyer can eat my ass.
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 12:49 PM by Beware the Beast Man
Shameless Repuke shill. Doesn't even attempt to hide her bias. :nuke:

EDIT- the thing that burns me about her the most is the way she coyly tries to shame others for being liberal. Case in point: the Dixie Chicks interview.

4. I remember that.
It was despicable. The way they were treated by the public and that they were practically driven (both by events leading up to the interview and by the interview itself) to apologize. I am thinking about that and I am getting really mad. It was so fucking horrible.

14. Natalie was good though, she held her ground and wouldn't apologize
even though she was practically in tears from being prodded to do so.

18. This is making me sick.

Good God, you damn media whores! :grr:

21. Just to clarify,
I was referring to Natalie Maines from the Dixie Chicks, not Natalie Portman.

26. They were getting death threats
against their families - and I think they all have children. It must have been so horrible and scary for them. :(

5. She handed Natalie a plant
And said, "If I'm going to talk to you you're going to have to hold flowers in front of the John Kerry."

20. She also said "We can't JUST have John Kerry for the whole time here!"
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 01:08 PM by Brotherjohn
"Who do we bring in for equal time?"

Natalie said (very graciously and laughing): "What to even it out? Come on, you have the O'Reilly Factor. That's on television. That evens it out." and handed the plant back to Diane.

Then Diane asks if she went up to Boston, and she said she had been to the opening party, and that she just loves John Kerry and thinks he has just "the perfect combination of compassion and intelligence and composure under pressure"... etc.

Diane said (admittedly laughing and trying to keep it light) "You're gonna make your speech, aren't you?" But she asked for it.

Natalie handled it very well, and not to defend Sawyer, but I think she was just paranoid about getting accused of not providing equal time. Her bosses were likely telling her to do it. I'm sure they'd have done the same thing if someone was wearing a Bush-Cheney shirt.

But COME ON people! It's a t-shirt on a guest. That doesn't violate equal time rules!!

22. Well it's not like an interviewing process has anything to do with
finding out the likes and dislikes of the guest, now does it?

I am so confuuuuuused.

the Dixie Chicks did when dianne was giving them some condesending crap.

The People are going to rise up and reject those media whores and won't that be a fine day?

Natalie asked (paraphrasing here) why the O'Reilly Factor is on tv that's equal time right and handed the plant back to her.

6. And we know Natalie Portman is a fantastic leader
I mean how many years of peace and prosperity did the people of Naboo have with her in power?

They actually wanted to mend the laws so that she could continue to be queen!

:)

In all honesty this is cool, she is from what I understand a very bright scholar and a good person, it's always good to see people with her traits and personality come out against the "dark side"

Yes, I am also hopelessly in love with her because of her brains, beauty, principles, and talent. Sigh.

Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 01:18 PM by Beware the Beast Man
Ms. Portman should have known to expect the Spanish Inqusition from Daine Whoreyer for daring to wear a John Kerry shirt. Yep, I think it's total bullshit myself, but someone has to throw the counter-argument out there! It sounds as if she really kept her composure. Good for her!

Maybe she wore it to get a question about it so she could plug John. (Ok that sounds dirtier than it is.)
