Eli Manning 6 yrs. $54 Million + Williams failed 3rd drug test?
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=755&e=1&u=/ap/20040729/ap_on_sp_fo_ne/fbn_giants_manning

NEW YORK - Top overall draft pick Eli Manning agreed Thursday to a $54 million, six-year contract with the New York Giants (news) that will pay him a rookie-record $20 million signing bonus.

The Ole Miss quarterback's bonus is believed to be the second highest in NFL history, behind only the $34.5 million the Indianapolis Colts (news) gave his brother Peyton in March. That deal also was negotiated by agent Tom Condon, who represents both Mannings.

Report: Ricky Williams Failed Third Drug Test
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040729/sp_nm/nfl_williams_dc&e=1

MIAMI, Florida (Sports Network) - Former Miami Dolphins (news) running back Ricky Williams (news) reportedly failed a third drug test for the use of marijuana.

According to the Thursday edition of the Miami Herald, Williams said the drug was a bigger reason for his retirement than he initially indicated. He also noted that he knew of his third failed drug test and a mandatory suspension that would have accompanied it prior to telling head coach Dave Wannstedt of his desire to stop playing football.

1. What a combo headline:
"Eli Manning has money to burn, while Ricky Williams' football career goes up in smoke"!:eyes:

Thanks for that "lead", UNDERPANTS!

6. True, but Williams also knew the consequences.
I'm sorry, but pot's just not that good. I suspect this will aid the Dolphins in getting the money back from him that they've been talking about.

9. I have to agree with that too
it's a strange hypocritical thing but this guy is giving up the NFL for his love of pot. That's a lotta money he won't be earning.

It's a shame for many reasons: a shame that the NFL is testing for a drug that probably doesn't affect is performance and a shame that Williams knew the rules and still kept smoking.

3. Alcohol is bad news
in a number of ways, but it almost seems to facilitate aggressive tendencies rather than suppress them as smoking good pot does.

If there is any sport in which one does not need one's aggresiveness suppressed, it is pro football.

I say more power to Ricky Williams. He has already made enough money to live on for the rest of his life, provided he doesn't squander it.

4. Didn't Mike Tyson squander 400 million dollars?
Ricky has always followed the beat of a different drummer. Hopefully, he had a good financial planner.

5. Mike had a lot of help from a large parasitic "entourage".
Ricky travels alone. He'll be fine. His mother has a big new house and all is good for them.
