Got my first tattoo yesterday!
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 02:13 PM by forradalom
I can't share 'em with the DU crowd, because I have no server to which to upload pics. Can someone help me out here?

On edit: Per the fine suggestion of DUers, I've posted them below!

4. Can't help you, but details please....
Where? Of what?

What were your thoughts on the process?

Be careful. It's addictive. Once you get over the hurdle of getting yourself one, if you weren't completely turned off by the process you'll become hooked.

and I said, "As with babies, yes, if and when I forget how much it hurt."

On edit: My thoughts on the process? Well, it hurt. But it's not nearly so bad as any one of a number of routine medical procedures. It was a small design, too, so it was done sooner than I thought. A nice refereshing Italian lemonade before and after helped too.

8. scabbing????
Better get a new artist. No really..my first one scabbed. It sucked. But then I went to another guy and told me how to handle them, and none of the other ones scabbed up on me.
DO NOT use anything like Neosporen (sp?).

15. How is it possible for it not to scab?
It may not look like a scab because it's covered in ink, and it may never get crusty because you should keep it moist, but it is scabbing no matter how good the artist is.

17. It wasn't the artist's work
It's that he gave me a lot more info on keeping it from really scabbing. I had a few tiny scabs, but nothing like the first one.
If you take good care of it, it should barely scab at all.
Plus on this post the poster asked how can someone show it if they just got it. Even if you do get scabbing, it shouldn't scab up right away.

9. Hey thanks! HERE THEY ARE!
The tattoo covers a scar on my right leg. The design is by Max Bernischke, a Jugendstil graphic designer. The tattooist was Keith Underwood of Taylor Street Tattoo in Chicago.

Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 02:30 PM by XNASA
The unofficial 'mayor of Taylor Street' was trying to close down his biz. Something about being an unsavory gathering place. Imagine that.

Nice tat.

16. Yes, the University Village Association
threw a hissy fit at the mere thought of a tattoo shop. I read the whole story of how he won over the community in the Near West Gazette. He did it the old fashioned way, by visiting neighbors and attending meetings. There are signs in neighboring shop windows that say, "Support Taylor Street Tattoo--Let Him Work."

They might've had something about those unsavoury types, though. They probably don't want 40-year-old housewives like me bicycling in, picking up an Italian lemonade, getting a tattoo, and staying for lunch. :eyes:
