1. UB40 - how reggae could sound boring and overproduced is a mystery,
but UB40 pulled it off.

40. I saw them open for The Police in about 1983.
I wanted to escort them off the stage so the REAL reggae-influenced band could start.

2. No way.......
Simple Minds had some decently rocking songs.

They are nowhere near as bland as a Hootie and the Blowfish or a Matchbox 20.

and hootie and the blowfish are the side of dry toast.

17. A confession regarding Train....
By all accounts I should hate them, but for some unknown reason I find that I don't mind their 2-3 big songs that I know of.

There's just a slight (very slight mind you) hit of soul or passion there that I think is missing from the other bands of that ilk.

I still in a million years would never go so far as to say I like the band, but I also don't turn off the songs when they come on the radio.

It's partly familiarity breeding contempt. I'm from Glasgow, they're from Glasgow. They (along with U2, The Waterboys and The Pogues) provided the background music to a big chunk of my childhood.

On one level, the answer is obviously, yes. But not necessarily, if done well. The layers are there tp be mined, regardless.

Just making the point that "suburban" doesn't necessarily mean bland when put in context of music or other forms of art.

America was the absolute fucking worst - still to this day I can't get through one minute of "Tin Man."
