My daughter is about to miss out on the chance of a lifetime/Ghana Airways
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 10:27 AM by alphafemale
She was supposed to be heading to Ghana, Africa this weekend for an international youth conference there. The accomodations once there were all free but she did have to cover her travel arrangements.

She'd been doing that for months now.

Then Cheneying Ghana Airways blows the whole thing. They've been grounded by the FAA in case you hadn't heard. They didn't renew their license.

She's stuck in Baltimore. A deal GHA had with another airline fell through, and we are being told we need to come up with a ridiculous amount of money for another carrier.

I'm heartsick for her.

What sucks most about having to scrape by is having to watching your kid lose something they worked so hard for to be snatched away.

1. Ghana is my parents' country
However, Ghana Airways is a sad and ramshackle excuse for an airline. Attempting to fly on it is a mistake.

I'm very sorry to hear about your child.

5. I've heard nothing but praise for Ghana.
It sounds like a beautiful land, with a tradition of warm hospitality.

And we recently came across a back issue of National Geo that featured Ghana.

7. You shouldn't have heard anything but praise for Ghana
But you shouldn't have heard anything but criticism for Ghana Airways.

2. Consider yourselves fortunate.
All airlines are NOT created equal.

3. Update.
Everything is resolved. :)

She will be flying out on a carrier out of Ethiopia, which I am told has a much better reputation.

she gets to go and doesn't risk flying on a shoddy airline. Hope she has a great time.

6. I think it will be a life-shaping experience for her.
Going to one of the notorious slave-forts is one of the scheduled activities.

That would be unforgettable. I'm not sure I would have the courage to visit such a place. Even places echoing smaller tragedies, such as Ford's Theater,Andersonville, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial have torn at my soul.

She's been weighing the choice of focusing on college studies toward a science based career path (i.e. medical) against possibly going toward more law or politics.
