"Hope" and "Love" do work! My dog will live!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! DU'ers!!!!

You guys are incredible!!!!!!!! You wonderful people gave me a shoulder to cry on, an ear to bend, hope to cling to, and love to share with my baby.

He will live. He probably won't have 100% mobility in his left side, but he will eventually recover enough to walk again...to run again....to play again.

We took our pooch to K-State and he had a TEAM of doctors!!! The first doctor seemed alarmed after the initial exam...and then the neuro-surgeon came in... and The neuro-surgeon was excellent!!! He told me "let's eliminate the what ifs and then find out what we can do to save your dog."

The myelogram revealed a ruptured disc but NO breaks!!!...the fluid leaked out and spread into his spine...he says in time this will be absorbed. We have a couple of months of physical therapy ahead of us. He will have to relearn to stand on his own, relearn to walk again, and relearn bladder control/bowel control...in effect, he's a puppy again....but that time and love will be his best healer.

I've never looked forward to cleaning up accidents after a dog so much in my life!!!!!

We just have to keep him immobilized when not doing physical therapy.

Tomorrow before we bring him home..YES!!!! HOME!!!!!..the therapist will show us the exercises we need to know to help him get strong enough to walk again.

They will continue to monitor his progress until we leave for Germany. They see no harm in his flying.

Last night my worries were great...this morning my heart was breaking...and now? My joy is beyond belief!!!!

Thank you so much kind people!!!!! From the bottom of my heart...THANK YOU!!!!!!!

If you've ever doubted the healing power of love and hope....don't! I'm telling you now...it works!!!!!

This morning tears of sorrow...now tears of happiness!!!!!!

8. We did. He paid the bill(s) and he has been reported
I forgot to mention that in my relief.

I don't know what will happen yet with the other dog. The owner will have to go to court and we'll know more after that.

My heart is fairly singing right now!!!!

3. I am glad to hear this..I have been thinking of you all day
get a back bathroom ready with a doggie door to keep him indoors...it will help to immobilize him...also move a tv there so you can keep him company or move the puter nearby..or get a playpen since he is small to keep him in...that will help.

I am so relieved for you. :loveya:

5. Did this happen this morning?
Our cable was out this AM so I could not check in before heading to KState to help my son move! I was right there and could have come over and held your hand! I am so happy your news is good, it is so difficult to have an injured pet and all that worry is awful. I have used KState for both my dogs and my horses and they are wonderful, so good and so kind. They saved one of my labs after everyone else had given up and I will be forever grateful to them. I am so glad your news was good news and I wish I had known so I could have stopped by, I drove right by the clinic. Yippeee! Your doggie is gonna be OK!

He was at Flinthill's Vet Services until then. We pick him up tomorrow. Thank you!!!! I would have loved to have had you hold my hand...I needed as many hand-holders as I could get today!

17. Darn!
We moved some stuff, I took him to Sonic about 1:00 then we drove right past the clinic at just about that time. We followed a bunch of cows in a trailer and I looked at the clinic thinking I was glad I had not been there for a while. I am happy for you.

I've had him since he was 4 weeks old. I was not ready to give him up...and it would seem he wasn't ready to go anywhere either.

22. I don't even know what happened....but as long as your buddy is
going to be OK, I'm thrilled!! To love a dog is just the most wonderful thing in the world...so having him around in spite of a severe injury must seem like the greatest miracle possible!!

24. Thank you, Gloria!
The neighbors shepherd attacked my dog and landed a blow to the back of his neck that ruptured a disc.

That happened last night and it's been one hell of a ride today. At one point I was being cautioned to get prepared to put him down.

Thank goodness for the doctors at K-State!!!

Between the love and support of DU'ers this morning, and that wonderful neuro-surgeon, my baby got the best care possible!!!

Here's the original thread.

My neighbor re-paid us this evening for the vet bills and his dog was reported.

23. I missed your thread this morning...
and I just read it now, after this one. I am so glad that he's going to be OK. One of my furkiddoes was kicked in the head a few years ago and I felt homicidal over it. He is OK, but never goes outside anymore. Give the pup an ear scratch for me and the kitties send purrs and meows!:hi:
