Tyson Knocked Out in Fourth Round
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) --

Mike Tyson was knocked out in the fourth round Friday night in a shocking end to the latest comeback of the fighter who once was the most feared heavyweight of his era.

Unheralded British heavyweight Danny Williams landed a flurry of punches that sent Tyson sprawling into the ropes, perhaps ending his career with the same kind of fury that Tyson once unleashed on other fighters.

The fighter once called the baddest man on the planet went down from a final right hand, then laid helplessly along the ropes, blood streaming down his face. He tried to get up to beat the count, then fell down again and the fight was waved to a stunning close at 2:51 of the fourth round.

"People forget this isn't a peak Mike Tyson. This was a Mike Tyson who was 38 years old," Williams said. "I thought I could win."

4. YES!
He needed to go down. I knew it would happen, but I wouldn't pay the money to see it. Now maybe we can see a new generation of fighters get the publicitiy they deserve.

I have no sympathy for anyone who can "lose" that much money and then beg for another chance.

7. He is one of the true greats of boxing
It deeply saddens me to hear of this. How far he has fallen. I think he has personal problems that are interfering with his training and his performance in the ring.

When he was at the top of his game he was as good as anyone in the history of the sport.

10. You can't be a great athlete if you aren't a great person.
Tyson is a thug and a bum. At one point, he was a very talented thug and bum, but his character flaws caught up with him long before his physical skills went.

Good riddance -- he's soiled the reputation of boxing for much too long.

14. how can that be true?
Many great athletes were or are total assholes. One has nothing to do with the other.

Tyson was one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport. He's also an asshole.

15. I guess I have a higher standard of "greatness."
People like Dennis Rodman or Ty Cobb or Mike Tyson might dominate their game, but to be great, you've got to share your blessings with people less fortunate or dedicate yourself to a cause. Peyton Manning and Mohammed Ali are truly great.

17. well I guess
my standards aren't up to par. You said one can't be a great athlete and not be a great person. I think that's nonsense.

If the fastest runner in the world, or the highest jumper, or the best swimmer is an asshole, he or she is still a great athlete.

Being a great person is totally subjective - a lot of people think Ali is a jerk, for instance (I'm not one of them). Achievement in sport is much more objective.

Why don't just lump Jackie Robinson and Roman Gabriel together?

23. funny how you mention Ali - he wasn't very well liked by a number of folks
not just people pissed at him not going to war either.

He's not the teddy bear he is perceived as now.

Evil bastard. Great player. His picture is in the dictionary next to 'asshole.'

22. Tyson is old
There comes a point where desire is not enough. I'm not even sure if he has that anymore.

The fact remains that he's a 38 year-old fighter. This is what happens when a fighter slowly becomes shopworn.

8. Have you seen his tatoo -- covering the left side of his face?
He's actually not such a bad guy, really. He educated himself a lot in prison. Too bad he can't morph into another aspect of sports.

How anyone can feel bad about this guy getting his ass kicked, I'm sorry but maybe once he showed some class back in the 80's but now he's nothing but another dangerous thug from the bronx.

16. Boxing's Fixed, 5 Guys At My Gym Could Beat Up Tyson
Seriously, watch full contact fighting to see real fights.

Ali was the last great "boxer", he combined athletics with brutal force and mind games to truly become "the greatest".

20. You're right about Ali
Tyson, I dunno. But Ali.

Man, those pre-prison films of him are AMAZING. At this point, heavyweights are boring to watch, but when HBO plays a light- or welter- weight, I tune in. The athleticism is amazong.

Ali (aka Clay) was like that before he went to the can.

Side note: My cousin was on the draft board that sent him to prison for dodging. There's a much larger (and personal) story here, but I'll save you the details.

24. Ali never went to jail
He was stripped of his title and not allowed to fight for 3 and a half years, but he never went to jail. It took him 3.5 yrs to appeal his case to the Supreme Court, which ruled in his favor.
