Poll question: Worst modern comic-book movie ('97 or later), and why?
Didn't include X-2 or Blade 2 because they're considered the better film of their series by a very large majority of people, including critics. Spidey 2 is more up for debate.

Please only vote for movies you've seen.

6. I have to agree...
I had to watch the Hulk as I was getting my car worked on once... it was on in the waiting area. Holy Cripes it sucked so bad I was breathless that people make crap like that.

7. It was a toss-up between

The Hulk and Batman and Robin, but I had to go Batman and Robin. Chris O'Donnell was not a likeable Robin. George Clooney wasn't good as Batman. Uma did okay as Poison Ivy, but Arnie as Dr. Freeze didn't make it. Plus it was too campy - Batman and Robin's first fight with the bad guys happens while they're at a ribbon cutting ceremony? Boy that just screams 1960s TV show.

The Hulk though while most of it was good special-effects-wise, they couldn't seem to get the Hulk's face right when he wasn't bouncing around. It looked too flat to me. My favorite memory of this movie was when the Hulk first appeared, out of the darkness, a little girl's voice exclaimed, "SHREK!"

With the exception of the old German assasin. I don't quite understand how he can stay alive.

9. The Fantastic Four
I was one of the "lucky" ones who saw the preview of Roger Corman's Fantastic Four. I'd like to say it was pure cheese, but it was more like imitation Velveeta...

12. "Spider-Man"
It sucked. I walked out 3/4 of the way through - something I haven't done in a long time. If fact, I can't think of a comic-book movie I like from this period.

16. Whaaa?
Got to ask--not to be jerky, but--what exactly are you LOOKING for in a comic book movie?

Seems to me the Spider-Man movies are about the pinnacle for comic-based movies. Actual character development, killer action, etc. If they're not, what is doing the job?

Just curious--what's a good movie in this genre, if Spider-Man isn't?

22. Talent. The actors and directing were awful... terrible!
I love the story of Spide-Man. I just wish a different group of people made the movie, that's all.

13. No doubt in my mind: BATMAN & ROBIN.
Why? Because with this episode, the film series finally sank to the level of the TV series. But at least the latter was entertaining in a campy sort of way. BATMAN & ROBIN was just painful!

Or as a buddy of mine so elegantly put it: "Any film that makes me NOT want to see Alicia Silverstone in form-fitting black latex must be bad!"

14. The two Batman movies
Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 04:55 AM by fujiyama
by Joel Schumacker sucked big. They were absolutely terrible.

He took the darkness from the first two Tim Burton movies and made it a costume party. Batman Forever wasn't very impressive (even at the age of 15 I was dissapointed with that thing).

Batman and Robin was a new bar in bad comic book movies. George Clooney obvioudsly never got into the role. Arnold, 'nuf said, Alycia is cute but that couldn't save such a terrible piece of crap, and don't get me started on Chris O'Donnel who couldn't act to save his life.

Clooney joked that he "single handedly destroyed the Batman franchise". While it's true that he deserves a lot of blame, Schumacker arguably deserves even more.

Other movies by him I've seen also didn't impress me.

Now I hear they're going to bring back Batman?!

Also I wasn't really as crazy about the first Blade movie as everyone else, but I saw a few minutes of the second movie and thought the fight scenes were pretty cool.

19. The Memento director is shooting a new Batman as I type this.
It appears to be inspired by the Denny O'Neil/Neal Adams/Irv Novick work of the 1970s, which IMHO, is when Batman really rocked.

15. Batman and Robin
made no sense, was terribly designed and featured actors with absolutely no familiarity or empathy for the characters.

And those were the good points.

The acting, sets and direction sucked at a level rarely seen since Plan Nine From Outer Space.

Leather suits with nipples? And Chris Mc as the "boy" wonder? And, and, and, and, and, and...

Opening titles to closing credits, the thing stinks.

Pathetic
