Take a can (or preferrably two) of condensed milk.
Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 11:24 AM by JCCyC
Put them, unopened, in a pressure pot.

Fill with water until half.

Boil. Wait for pressure to build. Leave for 45-50 minutes more.

YUM!!!

Edit: somehow I wrote an "r" with an acute accent on it. ???

4. Caramel?
I've heard this is what happens, but I've also heard that this recipe causes the can to explode! Obviously from your post the former and not the latter is the case.

7. I imagine the pressure cooker keeps the can from exploding...
As long as the pressure is the same inside and outside the can, it should be fine. And if the can does rupture, the pressure cooker should contain the mess...

9. I guess you could call it caramel
Here we call it "doce de leite" (milk candy). Caramel (caramelo), for us, is made from sugar only.

I suppose if the cans had air in them (ours haven't) they COULD explode. I have done this more times than I can count, and nothing bad ever happened. Shake the can -- if you don't hear the milk going splosh-splosh, it's a go.
