Did anyone else know that Dave Sim was s huge misogynist !
Ok I've been reading the Cerebrus the Aardvark comics (trade paperbacks) for a bit. I've read the first 7, so today I was thinking about picking up a couple more. I get on the internet to see if I can find a webpage summarizing what I've read through book 7 and what the next one is etc.

I come across a bunch of pages about Dave Sims unabashed misogynistic views. I mean, ok, in the books so far there have been some pretty odd characters, both men and women, in both good and bad lights. I can understand where someone might take them a bit out of context and see them in an unflattering light, but I always thought it was just a good look at the human condition in an individual light, not a broad brush stroke.

I'm kind of let down, his stories are pretty good, the books so far have breached multiple politica/religious issues and I've always thought he had a pretty good ability to change styles and "flow" between his stories... but wow. Here is his "Tangents" writings, straight from his own mouth.

here is someones summarization of what they feel Dave Sim is all about...

1. I used to have a lot of respect for his work

but then he went on into his personal "Femnazi" rants. :puke:

2. He's insane.
His tangent is more like a psychotic ranting. I couldn't make it through the whole thing. He talks about how he comes to his deluded thinking by interviewing mothers and daughters, and then goes on to say that feminism is based on anecdotal evidence and therefore must be dismissed

5. well I was at the comic shop today, and he's still putting out the monthly
I refrained from buying anything from him though, and I don't usually take part in protest shopping, although in this case I think it's pretty ridiculous.

I think he has some deep deep seeded problems, he's become celibate, at one time saying masturbation and porn is all one needs. Now he's moved on to the "I don't bother my penis, and my penis doesn't bother me". To each his own I guess, I just had no idea.

6. Back in the 80's I had an original Cerebus #1
and several others. Had to let them go at a loss, and it hurt to do so so much that I quit looking at them entirely. So, I never saw the misogynistic stuff.

7. He really went over the edge after his divorce
That was pretty nasty, and it affected - as far as I am concerned - the writing of Cerebus. Not to mention his long screeds in his editorials in the comic book.
