Senator Affleck?
Sign of apocalypse? Hello, Sen. Affleck
By Noelle Straub
Saturday, July 31, 2004

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Ben Affleck is barnstorming with Sen. John F. Kerry this week, but perhaps the Bay State senator could return the favor next year.

The movie star told the Herald yesterday he has an interest in politics but deflected questions about whether he would run for the Senate if Kerry leaves an open seat by winning the White House. Saying he's focused on a Kerry victory Nov. 2, Affleck said, ``I'm not thinking past that.''

5. Why would we want Affleck
We have some very talented dedicated public servants in this state in our party. Serious men that have been in Congress for years. Why should we bypass them in favor of the famous name? That's for states bereft of talent in their party.

7. I repeat he is intelligent and dedicated from what we have seen.

Political seats are open to anybody. If he can prove he can do the job and campaign well... why not? Let's keep our country free. There are serious men in Congress that I would like to see not in Congress.

10. He would not win!
You don't know Massachusetts if you think that. We take this stuff seriously. We have Barney Frank, Marty Meehan, Ed Markey, Tom Reilly, and Martha Coakley, among others. No need for a white knight to ride to the party's rescue. The Repubs did that in the last Governor's election because they had no one else. We do!

13. That would mean
taking a hell of a pay cut for himself. I doubt his altruism goes that far. He would also be forced to give up his playing televised poker which I doubt he would want to do.

15. Give him 10 more years then it'll be do-able
He's only 30 right?

Right now, he's doing great stuff for the Dems, he doesn't need to run for office. He'll have a huge effect on young voters as well as women voters across the board. He doesn't even grandstand for Kerry that much, he's getting out there in the media and talking about real issues. Of course the media is eating it up. Suckers! :)

I keep trying to figure out who the Pukes are going to use for their Ben effect. They don't have many choices at all.
