New stereo, speakers, and Warren Zevon's "The Wind" |
|

The old Kenwood power amp went out after 25 good years, so I went to Circuit City and got a pair of small Polk speakers and an Onkyo receiver (its the only one which has an honest to Jeebus phono input anymore, and I have to have someplace to play my vinyl.) Then the mail came and there was my little package from Amazon - Warren Zevon's "The Wind", which is very likely the last album he will ever release.
My first impression was that there is still some wonderful work in here, and not all of it is unhappy. I think my favorite song on the album is one called "(Let's Party for) The Rest of the Night", a song which features on of the greatest two note rock-n-roll riffs you will ever hear. When Mr. Zevon at last comes to his journey's end I'm not gonna dwell on "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", beautiful though it may be. I'm gonna turn this one up real, real, real, real loud.
on edit: spelling. Mr Ashcroft will discipline my typist.
