Firesign Theater
We just had our fantasy football draft today. Most of you would just go "yawn" to that fact but our league is a bit different, this is our 25th year. We all hung out back in the 70's and still get together quite a bit to this day.

So, what's this all got to do with Firesign Theater you ask? After our draft was complete our gracious host pulled out a VCR he had bought at half.com, Firesign Theater's "Hot Shorts." We used to toke and listen to their albums but I had never seen this video before. We all sat around for a couple of hours busting a gut, IT WAS HILARIOUS!! So much so that I tasted my first wacky week in maybe 15 years, just seemed to be the thing to do.

A brief description, they took maybe 10 or 15 minute cuys from old balck and white bad "B" movies or TV show and dubbed in their own entirely new stories with titles such as: Mounties Catch Herpes, Sperm Bank Holdup, Revenge of the Non-Smokers and Nazi Diet Doctors. If anyone ever gets a chance i HIGHLY recommend it!!

Has anyone else ever seen this video? Does anyone perchance have a copy on disc? Any other Firesign comments?? Favotite album, favorite skit??

1. Porgie and Mudhead...
Ethyl (Porgie's Mom): "Well, goodbye dear, I'm off to my bridge club..."

Adolph, aka 'Fred' (Porgie's Dad): "Isn't that damn bridge built YET?!"

3. I've got friend that can recite whole skits
from memory to this day. Unfortunately my brain does not work so well. I LOVED Porgy Tirebiter, that was on "Don't crush that dwarf, hand me the pliers" right?

2. Nick Danger, right?
I haven't heard them in years. In the old days Sunday night was comedy night on our local radio. Dr. Demento (sp?), Firesign. I will look for the video, sounds good to me. We just bought Elephant Parts on DVD by Mike Nesmith -- I love it, now my 5 & 8 year old love it. I miss old time comedy.

"A-heh, Rocky Rococo at your cervix."

You know what I like about quoting Firesign Theater? All the people you quote the lines to, unless they're fellow fans, look at you like you're crazy. That's what I like about Firesign Theater.

Edited on Sat Aug-30-03 11:41 PM by LunaSea
Is a full length feature story of the "secret world war" with bits of the old "Republic" serials from the 40's remodeled into an extrordinary, funny, flick.
Its now available on DVD! Picked up a copy on Ebay a couple of months ago.
If you liked Hot Shorts, you'll love J-Men!
