I'm back
I was sitting at the dining room table getting the monthly checks made out, running a defrag on the computer, when it hit me I was smelling smoke.
Acrid electrical smoke, at first I thought that we had burned up a fan from the constant running, but they were okay, the air conditioner was humming along okay. I checked the attic no smoke there, but when I approached my baby the smell got stronger.
My poor old computer had computed it's last, it never was anything to brag about to begin with, and five years was doing pretty good.
So, I tried using the computer at the library wednesday, I didn't like it, no privacy, not that I was intending to surf porn, I just didn't want to get into a political fight.
Payday was three days away, so, I sat and suffered through withdrawal, well I cleaned the house good, and am almost through Tom Robbins latest.
Friday, payday, I hustled down to Kansas City early in the morning to the Surplus Exchange, for $75.00 plus tax, I bought a better system than what I had. Bigger, faster, better.
I do have to scrounge my old system for parts though, the modem and sound card. This needs a new color card, the colors are flat, and almost nonexistant. Right now I have an ugly green color for background, and as soon as I figure which one it is I'm going to switch out the color cards.
Damn but I've learned much about computers, more than I've ever wanted too. The important thing is I'm working the bugs out, and I'm reconnected to the umbilicus of sanity.
It's going to take days to catch up again, but I'll get there. It almost brought a tear to my eye when I heard the modem dialing, and the first thing I did was type in DU and put it back in the bookmarks.
So someone fill me in, chimp* is still pretending to be president right? as far as I know we're at 144 kia since 01 may. Iraq is getting ready to fight a civil war, and we're going to be stuck in the middle.
All in all it's great to be back.

2. Hey there! Good to see you!
I don't think you missed too much! I quit smoking, were you around for that? Today is day 10! :)

Let's see, what else? There was some sex talk, some religion arguments, lots of speculation about the Madonna/Britney/Christina tongue kissing on the VMA's. You could have voted for your favorite song from several bands (I remember Gladys Knight and the Pips and the Staples singers.) (BTW, the correct answers are "Heard It Through The Grapevine" and "I'll Take You There"). I'm sure some stuff happened on DU outside of the Lounge, but I wouldn't know about that. :)

Glad to have you back! :hi:
