I liked the idea of everyone fending for themselves. I had no desire to help anyone with anything. I did have a tremendous desire for things, shiny things that gave me the impression that I was important. I wanted everyone to envy me and my stuff. Secretly, I desired them to not do as well as me. And, since we're friends now, I'll say that I detested them and derived great pleasure from their suffering. It made me laugh.
I'm sure glad that I discarded all that when I turned 13.

especially if it is caught at an early stage. If left untreated, it gets much harder to cure.

7. That's a lot like me too. |

I remember my liberal parents describing me as having "conservative" views up until I was like thirteen or so. Like when I started reading Doonesbury they'd say like "I'd think you're too conservative to like Doonesbury". This is probably because I was the kid that got picked on a lot in elementary school, but I knew I did well in school when I put the work into it and thought if I worked hard and got rich I'd be above all of them. I used to console myself by thinking I didn't mind that they were stupid because I'd end up so much more powerful than them in the end. I used to be pretty vocal about these kind of views, especially very anti-working-class because it seemed like those were the kids that picked on me the worst; I figured they were all stupid and deserved to get sent to the bottom.
What's funny is my parents didn't really try to talk me out of these views, probably because they knew it was just a stage and I'd grow up. :D
