I've just discovered a trait of Fascism in this country that |
|
One of the signs in the growth of fascism is that vocabulary is completly bastardized. Let's take the word "Fascism" itself and look at it. The Fascism comes from Roman word "Fasces", describing a group of sticks or axe handles that Roman judges carried with them to symbalize sovereignty of the Roman Republic. The Italian word "Fascio" is where we get the word Fascism but the word means band, union or league.
I've discovered it in how we color each other politicly ie=Red States, Blue States.
When someone brings up the color blue I think of= -Bluebloods -Loyatly -The flag of the French king(Not the tri-color they have now)
When someone brings up red I think of= -Revolution -Passion -Fury -Justice -Communist -Socalist -and social justice
Yet the Republicans have managed to steal the color red for themselves confusing people to their actual intentions like the NSDAP and Mussolini's PNF did over half a century ago.

the color "standard" changes. It's not set in stone. The winners of the presidential election get red, the losers, blue.
However, the term has become much more standardized over the last four years, so it may stay this way. But of course, people complained in the past that the Dems were being tarred with the "communist" color. Ya can't win for trying....

Wasn't the Bourbon Flag mostly white in color?
When someone brings up red I think of= -Revolution -Passion -Fury -Justice -Communist -Socalist -and social justice

In Britain, red has indicated royalty as well as the sometimes-antimonarchist British Labour Party. The color red may also be used to indicate the upper reaches of the Roman Catholic hierarchy (think of the College of Cardinals).
As Dookus said, political connotations of any given color may vary widely. Although like you, I do tend to think of red as the color signifying the political left.
