The Simpsons "better than gay marriage" game
Edited on Mon Aug-09-04 12:39 AM by troublemaker
This is from a freep Simpsons boycott form letter:
I understand that your company is an advertiser on The Simpsons. Due to the recent decision of their producers to expose children to same sex marriage, my family will no longer patronize their sponsors... Should your company choose to enable Hollywood to impose its morals on our children... We urge you to cancel your advertising sponsorship of this show which has now gone one step too far.

(It goes on and on. Link: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1187263/posts)
Since the letter says The Simpsons "has now gone one step too far" with gay marriage, we know that two gay people getting married is worse than anything The Simpsons has previously exposed children to. So what's your favorite "Well, it's still better than gay marriage" Simpsons moment?

For instance, Homer has driven while blind, black-out drunk at least ten times I can think of, as well as having been an enthusiastic consumer of marijuana and morphine. The other major drug abuser on the show is Otto, the school bus driver, who is always stoned while ferrying the children about. And one time Rush Limbaugh (in his Simpsons guise of Birch Barlow) got a psychopathic would-be child killer released from prison because the psycho was a Republican. Sideshow Bob once detonated a nuclear war-head in a suicide bomber effort to kill everyone in Springfield. A rogue officer fired a missile from a US Aircraft carrier into a New York City skyscraper, completely leveling the inhabited building...

1. It's not a children's show
That's what my 18 year old son just said. Am I raising an anal retentive Republican or a future good dad?

2. I wouldnt call it a kid's show
It talks about the issues of the day, but I'd say its more for ages 13-30, though people of all ages enjoy it.

5. Hey, I'm 46
Are you callin' me an old fogey??? :( lol.

I like new shows. But man, my kid is a Simpsons NUT. Did I ever tell you about the day he pre-programmed the satellite to go to every single Simpsons, all day long? There I am trying to watch a program and... bap... every half hour... off to another Simpsons. Took me a while to figure out what he'd done!! That was a few years ago, thank goodness he can go without the Simpsons once in a while now.

3. Kids never get the real jokes, they just like the cartoony part.
I know I did not get it when I was 13 but now I howl at the jokes that flew over my head. As for what part I think was not good for kids? Homer's blatant disregard for gun safety. I point out to people that gun control is to prevent the Homers of the world from having such a dangerous object.

4. Excellent point
Yes, just about ANYTHING is morally palatable before (gasp) *gay marriage*!

8. You think that is bad, try being a candidate. I had NO idea how many
anti-whatever groups there were until they all started sending me surveys. The NRA and The "Pro-Life" League are just the tip of the iceberg and that baby is bigger then the one that sank the Titanic.

7. I watched it since the first episode
in 1989, I was in Kindergarten, and my mom had no idea what the show was really about. Once she found out what it was really about, it was too late, I was already hooked and she didn't want the fight.

But when I was that age I had no idea about the "adult" jokes on that show. When kids and adults watch the Simpsons, they are laughing at two levels of funny.

It is pretty funny that the freepers will boycott the show because of gay marriage but not because of any of the other reasons you mentioned above. I see that they have their priorities in order

9. The Simpsons have done gay issues before anyway
Like the episode with John Waters, and just last season Homer shacked up with two gay guys. I doubt many Freeps watch the Simpsons, they just saw an excuse to gay-bash.

10. Just about any episode
with Itchy and Scratchy. I mean anything that glorifies murder
and cannibalism is "better than gay marriage"!
