freeper relative gets kid in college - claims to be disabled vet |
|
Yes, my freeper relative was in the service during the Vietnam war ERA (enlisted to avoid the lottery) but never left the USA the whole time.
He served his time, yes (went in 1972) and hated every second of it.
He got out of the service and now his kid is going off to a state college and got all of these scholarships being her father is a "disabled Vietnam veteran". I said :wtf: disabled?
Yeah ... he has flat feet was the answer to this.
What a crock. :puke:

Isn't there some kind of hotline for fraud cases? This is disgraceful and prosecutable.

4. it doesn't seem right! |
|
I feel like it believe me.
My father was a WWII vet that was in the Marine Corps. He got out of the war and was literally almost dead and had severe problems for the rest of his life but never even mentioned it to anyone (one of the few, the proud, a real marine!). Dad!
It just isn't right!
Should I turn this person into the school or the V.A. or what?

I know there's a hotline number for reporting IRS fraud and someone at that office can likely direct you to the proper authorities for this case.

"take responsibility" Republicans are very tough when it comes to demonizing others for taking advantage of Federal programs for aid.
It's a totally different story when it applies to them. Just like the hated "trial lawyers". Trial Lawyers are pond scum until they need one to sue their next door neighbor for planting a tree 12" onto their property. Then the gloves come off and trial lawyers are their best friend.
These people have no sense whatsoever of their hypocrisy. They're totally blind to their own shortcomings. They're idiots. Mindless drones parroting the party line.

My father never made an issue of any of his problems. I never qualified for any assistance myself and I paid the tab myself (Dad and Mom did help but they didn't have a whole lot).
This is your typical right-to-lifer born-again arse. Well you know the story.
He is more than a mindless drone. He is a fraud!

Don't turn him in if his kid has no other way of getting to college--who would that be hurting?
I don't know his finanacial situation, but what's done is done. If it were me, in the interest of not penalising his kid for the dad being a total ass, I'd justy lord it over the dad's head every time he goes off about "librul spendfare", and so forth.

8. No, this has to be reported. |

I'm a single mother and I know all about getting college assistance for a child. This man has absolutely no right to use blatant lies and fraud. There are plenty of other ways to get help without stealing it from the families of those veterans who are truly eligible. This is the culture of cheating and stealing for personal gain that spawns the Ken Lays and Dick Cheneys.

9. he has plenty, believe me |
|
Including 5 SUVs and a house worth 1/2 million bucks.
But you are right - wouldn't want to harm the kid in the process of this.
Hanging it over his head for the rest of my life is a good idea that I'll keep to myself and drag it out when necessary (like during the religious discourses I periodically hear). I sort of doubt I'll be hearing from him again given recent circumstances not related to politics, etc. This does happen luckily. (lol!)
These types really do kill me though. So many go to college without any help like I did (well $15 a week was the help).

for the tuition. Simple enough. Then the school can give the scholarship money to a more needy student. (Sorry so cynical. I went to college with a descendant of Spanish royalty who coasted through on a scholarship meant for poor Hispanics.)

Concerning enlisting to avoid the lottery. I enlisted in the Navy shortly after my seventeenth birthday in 1951, promptly found my self in Korea. Many years later and not too long ago a local freeper type accused me of being a draft dodger by saying "You enlisted to beat the draft." So in kindness I say I think you should avoid that part.
If your relative was asked to show proof of disability and did so with faked papers he is certainly guilty of gaming the system. OTOH perhaps he did get a medical for flat feet. He would not be the first one to do so.

and that was it. He received an honorable discharge and was not discharged as a disabled vet.
This really bothers me as my grandfather was a WWI totally disabled vet from being hit with nerve gas. Now this was very real.
This other scenario is a pile of total crap!
He could sell one of the 5 SUVs maybe!

These are the types that always point the finger when they are the ones that are draining the system dry for those truly in need. He could take out a loan on the 1/2 million+ house I bet.
It just never stops nor is it ever enough bucks for some people.
In the meantime, the poor disabled vet in the wheelchair (or whatever the disability may be) has a kid that cannot go because there really IS NOT any money to pay for it, plain and simple.

Turn his freeper ass in.
Bad enough his hero, * is stabbing vets in the back by undercutting the VA, we have to stomach this guy's gaming of the system.
Do it soon.

|
I know he has nothing to go on. What do these colleges require to prove that what you say is true?
I never received any assistance when I was young and going to school myself (I worked many many jobs).
I think a *reality check* is in order and I agree with you.
I'm on a roll now!!!!! Thank you for getting me pissed off enough to do something about this! It IS NOT RIGHT!

|
knowing the reality of this situation, it makes me wonder about the mentality of the kid as well (freeper no doubt, which drives a brand new car btw ...).
I don't know about others, but I didn't even own a car until I was in my mid-20s and it sure was not NEW!
Like I said, it goes on and on and on and on ....
