2. ME!! ME!!! ME!!!!!
I've prefered the larger feminine form since I was a kid. With the exception of a few years in jr high and high school (when I tried to deny my preference), every woman I've ever been involved with has been large - they ranged between 180 and 450 pounds.

My old boyfriend dumped me for a big boned woman.

I have been on both ends and It doesn't matter about the size of the person it matters about how big their heart is.

Seriously, when I meet a man, I consider everything--heart, mind, physical features--and not just how he compares to some ideal other people (Hollywood, the advertising industry) have decided is best.

I want to see more diversity in the entertainment and advertising media. And I want it now, dammit!!!!!!

And I'll grant you that Marilyn would be considered full figured today. (A bit of a curse, that as our changing diet has made us larger, so our "standard" of feminine attractiveness has gotten ever slimmer.)

But I never understood why anyone thought QL was good looking. She's always seemed to me to be unattractive totally--not merely as a function of her weight, but overall

It's all relative I guess.

Nothing wrong with preferring women to be thin - that's your choice and just how you're wired.

But it is possible for others to see the same qualities you do in a person who may have a bit more to the body.

If we were all the same - how boring would life be?

25. Define full figured.
It's so variable. I'm a more curvaceous type, but still in a healthy weight range. Depending on perspective, some might call me slender, average, or full-figured. I used to be very hung up about not being "skinny" when I was younger, but that's just not my body type. I don't seem to have a huge problem attracting people though.
I think the point is that we all come in different packages and there's someone out there who will appreciate us for who we are. There's no "better"- just differences. To me, that's a good thing. :)

"with a little meat on the bones" or "thick" (normal w/ big T&A) or "chubby" or "fat" or "obese"?

Not being an anorexic model is fine by basically everyone. I'm attracted to everything from skinny to just a bit chubby. I'm not attracted to quite chubby to fat/obese, and I think I'm a pretty typical male in this regard.

42. if this is just about physical attraction,
then in my opinion, a lot of the women I see on TV and movies aren't realistic, and not that attractive. Skinny just doesn't do it for me. I like curves. What's on the inside is more important in the scheme of things of course, but that wasn't the topic.

Another thing, if you decide you want to lose weight for health reasons, great!. But it should be your decision, not Hollywood's.

43. hey, almost *all* women are good looking...
...assuming they know how to smile once in a while. Curves are nice, they play to another one of those 'secondary sex characteristics' so hips are very feminine.

I'd be interested to hear opinions on chubby guys' attractiveness as a contrast. As a straight guy I'm probably not a credible authority on male attractiveness, but I kinda suspect that big bellies aren't too attractive, no matter who's doing the looking. (I certainly don't like mine -- I'm successfully getting rid of it by exercising like a maniac. About halfway to where I wanna be ... should be there by christmas.)

He said his standard is that if his belly ever gets to the point that he is having trouble seeing his bits, then he needs to lose weight. He's never been to that point. I think he's just right.

He is 5'6", by the way. I have no idea what he weighs, but he might be described as stocky. He's not even BUILT skinny.

55. Fat is not Beautiful
I don't know about anyone else but my opinion on this derives from my own experience. First off, there is a difference between a full figured woman, someone that is big boned, and a small boned woman that is overweight.
I grew up skinny and didn't start gaining weight until later in life. I'm a small boned girl so when you add 50 or 60 extra pounds to my body frame, I look fat, and in my opinion find nothing sexy about it at all.
I can tell you that a couple years ago when I decided that I wasn't going to be fat anymore, and that I was going to control my eating habits and get off my lazy ass and start exercising, I was amazed at the way people started treating me. I'm not sure if it was my attitude or the fact that my sexuality was awakened again, but I not only was treated differently by the general public but it was like I was a man magnet. I started dressing differently showing off my new figure even though it wasn't perfect, by the time I got down to a size 10 I was beating them off of me! So, I have been fat and have had the experience to loose that weight and have seen how life changes afterwards. I know people treat you differently when you are overweight, fair or not! But maybe it's the way you feel about yourself that gets you the new attention??
So, as unpopular as this will be, being fat is not beautiful, there is nothing beautiful about it and nothing healthy about it. When you hear yourself say, I don't care what people think, or I'm beautiful just the way I am, you may consider yourself to be in denial... Comparing fat to Kate Winslet is not accurate she is big boned and carries her weight with poise. Queen Latifah is big boned and was overweight, she proved that when she lost that weight and now is drop dead gorgeous.
You feel different, you dress different and act different when you are thinner period...
Comparing outside beauty with your inside beauty by saying it doesn't matter what I look like just that I have a heart of gold, is like saying a beautiful woman that is ugly on the inside doesn't need to worry about it. You are who you are and inside beauty speaks loudly, but the way you take care of yourself does too. So to the people that are extremely overweight I'm here to tell you life gets better when you aren't carrying around all that extra baggage, it's good for your self-esteem as well as your heart. So throw away your extra large sweat pants and over sized t-shirts and slip into a sexy outfit that really shows your inter beauty and free yourself from the paralyzing limitations that weight puts on you.

63. good for your weight loss.. it's tough and you did it
I don't agree with everything you say but I do believe there are people who are overweight that accept themselves the way they are and really can be happy. You obviously were not and it is good you have come to a place in your life where you feel good about yourself and attractive.

Just as there are people who accept themselves overweight there are those who will never be thin enough and are obsessed with weight loss. Those folks are no more healthy than a person whose weight is affecting their health.

There's all kinds of people out there that fall into many categories - what you needed isn't necessarily the key to happiness for everyone else. I do agree there are many in denial about being too skinny or too fat, but there are those who are what they are and they accept it and don't use that to define themselves.

btw: Welcome to DU! :hi:

56. I've been a size 16 my entire life
well almost my entire life. I was heavier when I was younger, but now a size 16 again. My mother was the same size as I am, so I can't blame it on anything (I could be her twin physically).

I've been beating men off with sticks my entire life. I guess they like the fact that there is more to love - ?

Who knows?

I am glad to see this thread! I was at the grocery store the other day and mentioned "Twiggy" to the guy working there and he said, "I like a lot more meat on the bones than that!".

I'm glad this thin is in crap is finally going away.

I have a young cousin that is bone thin and weighs only 90 lbs. and is 5'8" and both she and her mother are obsessed with size/weight.

I think it is far better to obsess on something important, like what is in the mind.

Our bodies are our vessels. We need to care for them and feed them, not starve them to fit into a size 1 which is the case with my young cousin (age 18). :( Very sad to see this crap.

:dem:

68. My husband saw a woman
wearing those ultra low-waisted jeans the other day and her shirt was too small so it rode up and her HIP BONES literally jutted out and were really sharp. We were in the grocery store. It might not have been nice, but he whispered to me, "my GOSH I hope she buys some food!" He told me later he found that disgusting. Said she looked like a refugee.

Different strokes, I guess.

and I wear either a size 12 or 14, depending. I have a medium frame and an hourglass figure, which I've been told is very well-proportioned. My husband thinks I am completely hot. People don't see me and think "fat" but I am definitely NOT supermodel thin and I don't care--I'm healthy, I feel great and I look good. What more is there?

My husband told me years ago he never was attracted to thin women. He said he was always afraid he'd "break them."

By the way, I have always felt the same about men. Skinny??? Hell no. No thanks. Especially skinny legs. No offense, but nope. I like guys with some meat on their bones. Stocky, even. Fine by me. Heavier guys are better looking, in my opinion.

On edit: in fact, here's my "chunky monkey:"

Sorry I don't know how to resize it, is the picture too big???

and sweet, too. My husband is really big and tall. I like that. I like men who are kind of "bearlike" in the nicest sense of the word. As far as curves go, I think a lot of us are "normal", i.e., size 12-14, 5'4 and up, and curves are normal. I think our culture or at least clothing sellers like to push the bizarre concept that all women should be rail- thin, etc. That is fine for some women, but not what all should aspire to. I like my body just as it is.

76. A curvy one myself....
I have worked hard to lose a lot of weight, but I really am enjoying my size 14 figure (former size 22). I am fit, I good shape but still have my curves where they count. I have better self-esteem and most men would agree they enjoy the eye candy, even though I'm not skin and bones.

thanks for starting this thread. I honestly had no idea there were so many guys who aren't into rail-thin women. I'm married, so it doesn't really matter for me, but it's nice to let go of that nagging feeling that people are judging you. I'm really not what you would call obese at all, but I am curvy and it's sometimes hard, especially living in Texas, where we are all supposed to be blonde and a size 4.

93. Rail-thin women = ecch.
What is the HUGE attraction, for instance, to women like Paris Hilton and Gwynneth Paltrow, both of whom have pancake asses that are extensions of their backs?

As long as all of the curves are in place and they aren't shaped like a Granny Smith apple, it really doesn't matter what you weigh. I liked the beauty standards of the 40s and 50s, myself, where everything shot out proud like a rocket and women didn't look like french fries.

Then again, having too pronounced an ass is also bad if you're a male.

Glad to be here.
