I saw the US get their asses handed to them in Greece.
Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 07:00 PM by Bleachers7
As many of you know, I am in Greece for the Olympics. I scored tickets for tonights ass kicking by Puerto Rico last night while walking around Athens. It was a true embarrassment. I know that the US doesn't have to win every time, but this was ugly. Our gang of overpaid multi-millionaires couldn't hit a shot or a foul shot and refused to play defense. It was a disgusting display and a national embarrassment. Other than that Greece is great. It's hot and sunny every day. I am seeing Judo and Baseball tomorrow. Greece is playing Cuba. I hope to see one of the Cubans hopping over the outfield wall and right onto a Yankees starting lineup. See you all soon, Bleachers7 :hi:

3. Have a great time.
I hope this humiliation will improve some souls.

I have a friend working 14 hours days for ABC news at the Olympics, but I don't suppose you've run into her.

6. Sorry,
But I fail to see how this qualifies as an "embarrassment" or an "outrage."

7. I'm glad
I HATED the change that made it possible for our professional athletes to compete against under-trained and underfunded amateurs from other countries. It seemed to me like the ultimate American arrogance. I hope the U.S. B-Ball team continues to have its ass handed to it.

Plus, Iverson is a jerk.

8. Funny thing is...
when it was amatuers only, the U.S. dominated anyway. Now (well, maybe not "Now") we have professionals dominating with no class.

9. Exactly
There was much more honor, and much more to cheer, with the former.

12. According to todays newspaper...
this is only the 4th loss for the U.S. in 112 Olympic Basketball games, and the first since 'professionals' have been allowed to play.

10. I Normally Abhor Basketball,
But watching that game today was really fun. Our overpaid pros took the court with way too arrogant an attitude. I'm really glad they were put in their place by a country considered an underdog.

I never thought it was fair that they allowed pros into the Olympics. Granted, in sports like tennis, it's hard to find people who haven't gone pro at 12 years old. But that is the exception, not the rule when it comes to sports.

But as I said, it was fun to watch all those pros put in their place today. Now if NBC would just put volleyball back at 3 AM where it belongs.

11. Undertrained and underfunded?
Think again, the teams from Europe, especially, are well-funded and trained better than American amateurs are these days.
