Cats and floppy drives - do they mix? |
|
I work at two computers and am often exchanging data via their floppy drives, and my long-haired cat loves to lay on my desk next to me while I am working. How long will my floppy drives continue to tolerate all this cat hair that's floating around me (I can see a bunch in my keyboards right now)?

1. Just open up the computer once in a while |

and vacuum it out. The key is to keep air flowing.
On edit: Be sure, of course, to power off AND unplug the computer, and preferably use a plastic nozzle.

4. I used to have a cat that |
|
like to sit *in* my flpppy drives. Of course, that was back in 1982 or so and they were 8" floppy drives in a case the size of a small desk. They were pretty unreliable because the read/write head was stepped across the surface of the disk with a big old screw that measured something like 1/4" in diameter and about 6" long. I'd have to open up the case frequently to physically realign the read/write head and there was a nice cat sized space next to the power supply that she favored.

and they lie everywhere near my computer. I've never had a floppy drive go bad in the last 13 years. Now I don't even have a floppy in my computer I purcahsed about a year ago. :hippie:
