Yet another indescribably crappy trade debacle for the Boston Celtics
The tradition continues...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1860572

WALTHAM, Mass. --- All Gary Payton wants is a little respect. And maybe to play for a team other than the Celtics.

After the Lakers traded Payton to Boston, the All-Star point guard was reportedly furious, didn't show up for his required physical with his new team and, on Sunday, told the Riverside (Calif.) Press-Enterprise that he will quit if facing entering the Celtics' training camp in October.

"I'll quit," Payton told the newspaper. "I can go on and do something else.

"I wasn't going to Boston to take a physical. I ain't going to move my family no more. I can't take my family to Boston."

Payton said he didn't have anything against the Celtics, but that he felt the Lakers had failed to honor their agreement with him when Payton exercised his one-year $5.4 million contract option to continue to play in Los Angeles.

"It's about respect," Payton told the Press-Enterprise. " didn't respect me. Why should I respect them?

"They used me so they could get other players," Payton said, adding that "Boston is going to lose out on this. They ain't going to get nothing."

2. He's no longer a starter caliber NBA player
No offense Gary, but people get older and slower.

14. I actually haven't given 0.0000001% of a crap about the NBA for years
but this trade was bad by even formidably crappy Celtics standards.

12. At least the Celts have not entered the seventh circle of damnation
that is the Washington Boulez/Wizards.

I remember those late great years of Elvin Hayes, Wes Unseld, Mitch Kupchak (the player not the GM), Bobby Dandridge winning the crown when I was in junior high. And it has been NBA mediocrity hell ever since. Not even MJ could save us. Dope smoking Chris Weber. Juwan Howard. MANUTE FREAKING BOL! Georghe Muresan! (Sobbing, Tearing hair out) Kwame Brown. Please.

The MCI center should be torched for the insurance money just like that lame Polynesian restaurant in Goodfellas.

15. See this is why I became a Kings fan
:P
Yeah then Webber becomes a star in sacramento, Juwan goes to Dallas, Maunte Bol is a good guy but not a good basketball player, Mursean, were they just trying to be freaky, that guy was a freak, and Kwane BRown yeah. Heh, but the MCI center is also for the Caps, and the Caps arent totally suckass.

Waht they outta do is have Mursean vs Mugsy Bogues, one on one, that would be funny. Ironically both of these guys played for the bullets at one time heh, wizards is a bad name.

22. Mugsey Bogues... sigh... I forgot about that one. Another in the long
freakshow futility parade that is Lez Boulez (as Tony Kornheiser called them before the name change to the Wiz.). At least, in Mugsey's case, "the cat could ball", unlike Manute... and Gheorge...

Almost forgot about Rex whatshisface from Kentucky...

(more hair torn out...)

6. It could have been worse...
if not for the change of a flip of a coin Portland would have been named Boston and then you'd have the Boston Trailblazers to deal with also!!!

What, Kenny Anderson never worked out for you guys? He was the future here until we traded him to the Celtics because we got Damon Stoudamire!

19. Another word from Seattle
Welcome to our personal Hell, otherwise known as "we suck".

Can I tell you again what a marvelous athlete and person Edgar Martinez is? He is the one bright spot in the shithole known as Seattle Professional Sports. (Interestingly enough, the only tolerable people in Seattle Professional Sports play for the Seattle Mariners. Go figure.)

In the meantime, my condolences on Gary Payton. Forgeddabout moving his family. I'm wondering if the Boston front office will have to Crisco the doorway of the venue to get Payton and his ego inside. (Oooops! Did I say that? My bad.)

Julie
wondering what we'll have to buy for the Sonics so they can actually field a team

23. Danny Ainge may have been a great Celtic guard . . .
but he sucks as a general manager . . . his first mistake was trading away Antoine Walker, and it's been downhill ever since . . .
