I think Randy was an excellent guitarist, but Tony invented heavy metal so I gotta give him props.

3. As much as I love the original Sabbath, there's no contest |

Randy Rhoads was so above and beyond mere metal guitarist. Tragically he was taken from us before his true genius was even recognized. It's my belief that he would have long transcended anything he did with Ozzy or Quiet Riot in short order and probably would have even eclipsed Eddie Van Halen (who stopped giving a shit about playing guitar in 1986 anyway) as the most influential guitarist of the 80's.
Probably the only small plane crash in the last 20 years NOT caused by the Bush Criminal Empire, but a huge loss for music :(

6. Rhoades is yet another artist whose death elevated him to |
|
godlike status. I don't claim to be able to tell for sure exactly how good he was just by listening to Ozzy albums, but a whole lot of fans seem to think they can.
Lots of guitarists took classical training, so that doesn't impress me. I have yet to hear anything Rhoades ever did on tape that makes me think he belongs in the same category as hard rock guitarists such as Blackmore (granted, early Blackmore), Vai or Satriani, but because he's dead people compare him to the all-time greats.
Just my opinion.
