Why do my KC Chiefs support Bush?
RB PRIEST HOLMES

Q: Did you sign a ball for the President?

HOLMES: “A lot of guys signed it to pay our respect. We couldn’t let him leave empty-handed.”

Q: Did he swing your vote?

HOLMES: “I’ve supported Bush for a long time, so it wasn’t a matter of trying to get my vote.”

4. Maybe because football players
Maybe because they are in the top earnings brackett so they get a HUGE tax break by supporting the president.

6. What do you expect?
Most athletes turn pub after getting those fat contracts. I me my mine money and endorsements, that's all half of them, give a flying fuck about. That's why I was actually glad to see the US basketball team get their asses handed to them by Puerto Rico.

7. Alas, the vast majority of pro sports figures don't think.
It's not just the Chiefs. It's probably every NFL team, every MLB team, every NBA team, every NHL team. I can't think of any big exceptions on the whole, anyway.

my husband. He has been and continues to be a lifelong faithful Chiefs fan but that just about tossed him over.

10. Me too
I'be had to turn off the news, and throw away the paper. The answer is simple really MONEY. I've come to the conclusion on football games, the stands are full of monied pukes and the democrats are all watching the tv.
The tv revenue is what drives this, if someone could organize an effective boycott, it would hit these sickos where it really hurts.

11. It sucks that the entire teaching staff's combined income...
... at my old high school makes less that a second string running back on a last place NFL team. Our priorities are lacking in our country.

13. My husband
just sent them a letter advising them to remember that this was a political stunt and that letting a candidate use them as such could likely come back to haunt them. He figures you just have to let them know even if it does not change anything.

15. Most of them didn't graduate from college
and they make a lot of money. But I think the lack of a complete education has more to do with it.

16. They responded to my e-mail
they said:

Carl Peterson publicly extended an invitation for Senator Kerry to visit Chiefs camp should he care to do so.

17. Good to know
Kerry should do so. It seems so stupid to have to visit a damned football team but since Missouri is so important he should do it just to counter any Dodo who would say, "Hey, Bush* likes the Chiefs so I am voting for him."

19. Chiefs
Hi Jay, they responded to mine also as I am a season ticket holder which ticks me off especially when Vermeil said he would not extend the same invitation to Kerry.

They just basically said Vermeil was not speaking for the Chiefs organization. But hell Vermeill & Peterson are the Chiefs, along with Lamar Hunt from TX. So that was BS.

18. also remember
most, if not just about all of pro sports owners are hard-core GOP, many of who amassed their fortunes in less-than-ethical ways *COUGH(angelos)*COUGHCOUGH*...From a player standpoint, it just makes good sense to never publicly take a political stance contrary to your team owner, i.e. the person that signs your paychecks and can blackball you out of the league in a minute...just one of those unwritten rules, imo...
