I'm giving away DU donation stars to the first three baseball fans..
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 12:35 PM by SaveElmer
Who can answer the following (easy) questions.

1. Who started for the Dodgers in the 7th game of the 1965 World Series against the Minnesota Twins ?

2. What pitcher pitched the longest seventh game in World Series history, what world series was it, and who did he play for ? (Hint: look at my Avatar)

3. A one sentence answer on why it is in our vital national interest to hate the Yankees ?

By Stars I mean a 10 dollar DU donation in the name of the winners!!!

1. I believe
1. Sandy Kofax
2. Jack Morris for the Twins
3. It is in the national interest to HATE the Yankees because they are a reflection of the right wing republican ideology in our country. Plus they just really suck!!!

2. I can answer number 3
Because so long as everyone hates the Yankees we can be ignorant of the fact that if they Yankees didn't exist, the Red Sox would be the "evil empire" having the highest payroll, and we can also ignore the fact that as much of an asshole Steinbrenner is, he invests in his players unlike other owners who invest in Vegas or hookers instead of their ballplayers which is why they have a tendency to lose to the Yankees whenever they play them.

16. I don't consider the Yank Me's to be the evil empire
because they have the highest payroll (that would be like the kettle calling the pot black) but instead they are the evil empire because, well, they are the New York Yank Me's and have caused the current financial problems in baseball by handing out cash like they were an old lady handing out penny candy to little children.

23. Yes I am not too happy with the pay scale...but I
haven't been happy with it since before the strike.....

But as with anything the salaries of some are outrageous.....

I live near the Mets farm team and enjoying going to those games...

I went to opening day in ny one year...never again..and I wouldn't go to a yankee/red sox game.....too many emotionally drunk fans who still think fighting is cool.......

3. Okay.
1) Sanford Dean Koufax (either him or Drysdale, I'd imagine)
2) Jack Morris, 11 inning shutout in 1991 for the Twinkies vs. the Braves
3) Yankees suck.

4. here ya go.....
1. Sandy Koufax

2. Jack Morris, 1991, Minnesota Twins

3. The yankees are the epitomy of the 1% of the country, that has all the wealth they will ever need to do whatever the hell they want to do, and they do not exist on a level playing field with the other teams in the major leagues.

Do I win a star?

15. So where would that put the Red Sox?
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 12:57 PM by noahmijo
Ah you know what? my mistake that's the difference.

But that's ridiculous, I read a different article from Businessweek which I can't find right now it's in my archives in a bookcase that read that the Sox only make about $36 million less than the Sox.

I wish people would get their freakin facts consistent here.

Oh well. That article has the Rangers at 152 million so same argument different team in THIS case.

6. 1. Sandy Koufax. I was in 4th grade, stayed home sick and watched it on TV
2. Jack Morris, 1991, Minnesota Twins. I was there.
3. Because Steinbrenner cares not in the least for the sport - he just likes big shiny trophies and hasn't gotten one in years.
