THE MALKIN MEDIA DIVERSITY TEST
By Michelle Malkin   ·   August 04, 2004 12:14 AM

My new column is up. It's on the "UNITY Journalists of Color" convention being held this week in Washington, D.C. Both President Bush and Sen. John Kerry plan to make appearances, where they will try to out-P.C. each other in gag-worthy fashion.

I cooked up a little quiz for all these skin-deep diversity types and have invited my fellow "journalists of color" to show us their true colors. Feel free to send the test to your favorite mainstream media journalists and ask them for their scores. Test-takers get five points for every statement they mark "YES:"

1. I have never voted for a Democrat in my life.
2. I think my taxes are too high.
3. I supported Bill Clinton's impeachment.
4. I voted for President Bush in 2000.
5. I am a gun owner.
6. I support school voucher programs.
7. I oppose condom distribution in public schools.
8. I oppose bilingual education.
9. I oppose gay marriage.
10. I want Social Security privatized.
11. I believe racial profiling at airports is common sense.
12. I shop at Wal-Mart.
13. I enjoy talk radio.
14. I am annoyed when news editors substitute the phrase "undocumented person" for "illegal alien."
15. I do not believe the phrase "a chink in the armor" is offensive.
16. I eat meat.
17. I believe O.J. Simpson was guilty.
18. I cheered when I learned that Saddam Hussein had been captured.
19. I cry when I hear "Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood.
20. I don't believe the New York Times.

My score: 100. Natch!

Color me culturally and ideologically diverse.

Update: The Washington Post reports on UNITY here.

Mr Scorpio scores 5. (Walmart... sometimes - so sue me)

34. wondered that myself
The only thing I can think of is that "Chink" is a deragotory term for Chinese... but, I'm guessing 'chink in the armor' is a term from the Middle Ages referring to the armor of knights of the time.

The idea of the quiz, as I see it, is that she thinks no reasonable person could possibly say no to half the questions.

18. She doesn't even master her English
I'm German, and I still knew that a chink acutally is a crack/weak spot. Using it as a pejorative term for Asians (because of the slit eye) is only secondary.

Just to be sure, I checked the dictionary:

Main Entry: chink
Pronunciation: 'chik
Function: noun
Etymology: probably alteration of Middle English chine crack, fissure
1 : a small cleft, slit, or fissure
2 : a weak spot that may leave one vulnerable
3 : a narrow beam of light shining through a chink

6. I'll take the test (with commentary point by point)
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 12:35 AM by bluestateguy
1. I have never voted for a Democrat in my life.

Only 2 or 3 times have I not.

2. I think my taxes are too high.

Yes. Sales taxes that is. No complains about income taxes, though I'd be happy to pay more for a nationalized health care system.

3. I supported Bill Clinton's impeachment.

No, no and FUCK NO. And Ken Starr must be outed as gay.

4. I voted for President Bush in 2000.

He was Governor Bush back then, and he was not elected.

5. I am a gun owner.

No comment, but I oppose gun control, mostly because fascists like Malkin should not be the only ones who are armed.

6. I support school voucher programs.

Generally no. If you want to send your kid to private school, go ahead and send 'em. I, however, will not fund the bigotry of some fundamentlist "Christian" school that condemns me to hell becuase I don't believe exactly what they believe.

7. I oppose condom distribution in public schools.

I'll take a page from the state rights crowd, "let local districts decide". I tend to support referral services instead, as condoms themselves could distract from the learning environment. But Malkin and her ilk should butt out if a school district decides to distribute them.

8. I oppose bilingual education.

I do, but the state has a responsiblity to teach these kids English, not to just make them fend for themselves.

9. I oppose gay marriage.

I support gay mariage. Malkin should mind her own business.

10. I want Social Security privatized.

Another no, no and FUCK NO. Just promise me that if it is privatized that I will not be compelled to participate (fat chance).

11. I believe racial profiling at airports is common sense.

Racial profiling will not work. Terrorists will just find non-Arab mules, like Richard Reid or Taliban Johnny Walker. They're a little smarter than that. Then again, I'll go along with racial profiling of Arabs at airports if we can racially profile conservative white men from the South within 1000 feet of an abortion clinic.

12. I shop at Wal-Mart.

I boycott Wal-Mart.

13. I enjoy talk radio.

I do! Air America, Bernie Ward and Ray Taliaferro.

14. I am annoyed when news editors substitute the phrase "undocumented person" for "illegal alien."

I don't give a shit.

15. I do not believe the phrase "a chink in the armor" is offensive.

I don't, but I am unaware of anyone who does.

16. I eat meat.

I do, which is why I believe in strict regulation of the beef industry and more stringent meat inspections, which this administration opposes.

17. I believe O.J. Simpson was guilty.

He probably was guilty, but the police and prosecution fucked it up and in a democracy when police and prosecutors break the rules and mishandle evidence, sometimes the guilty just have to go free. Perhaps they will be more careful next time.

18. I cheered when I learned that Saddam Hussein had been captured.

I did, for about 10 minutes. Then I realized that Howard Dean was right: America is no safer with him captured, and there are hundreds of dead US soldiers to prove it.

19. I cry when I hear "Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood.

I do, because it's a really shitty song and Lee Greenwood is a Chickenhawk who never served in any of the wars he supported.

20. I don't believe the New York Times.

We agree. Damn fool reporters like Judith Miller did more to pimp the war in Iraq than any conservative colummist could ever dream of doing. She is a disgrace and should be fired for using Ahmed Chalabi as a "source" to support the notion of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

11. Beautiful! Since that covers me mostly I'll borrow yours and edit
where needed.

1. I have never voted for a Democrat in my life.

The only time I don't vote Dem is if there isn't one running, then I go with whoever isn't the repuke or skip it altogether

2. I think my taxes are too high.

Yes, I think my taxes are too high for the government I'm getting, but Michelle you and your ilk need to pay a LOT MORE. Sales taxes that is. No complaints about income taxes, though I'd be happy to pay more for a nationalized health care system.

3. I supported Bill Clinton's impeachment.

No, no and FUCK NO. And Ken Starr must be outed as gay. I'll just add a fuck you to Michelle to thtis one.

4. I voted for President Bush in 2000.

He was Governor Bush back then, and he was not elected. HaHa, good one BSG! And also, NO WAY IN HELL!!

5. I am a gun owner.

No. I support the notion that EVERYONE should be issued a Musket, 50 iron balls and 5 lbs of black powder and should be able to load and fire in under a minute , mostly because fascists like Malkin should not be the only ones who are armed. Also just because I don't own a gun, doesn't mean the Second Amendment doesn't apply to me too.

6. I support school voucher programs.

No. If you want to send your kid to private school, go ahead and send 'em. I, however, will not fund the bigotry of some fundamentlist "Christian" school that condemns me to hell becuase I don't believe exactly what they believe. The argument for school vouchers is actually the precise argument for FULL FUNDING OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS!

7. I oppose condom distribution in public schools.

No. Why should education end at your penis/vagina?

8. I oppose bilingual education.

Not outright, there should be a capacity tohelp kids who can't speak english. I agree with the rest of BSG's statement --> "the state has a responsiblity to teach these kids English, not to just make them fend for themselves."

9. I oppose gay marriage.

I support gay marriage. Malkin should mind her own business.

10. I want Social Security privatized.

Another no, no and FUCK NO. The entire surplus has been stolen, isns't 5.6 trillion dollars enough for you thieves?

- I'll give a double-amen to that!

12. I shop at Wal-Mart.

I boycott Wal-Mart. Although I will shop there if Miss Malkin can produce a receipt showing SHE has bought something there in the last 3 years.

13. I enjoy talk radio.

I do! Air America, NPR and yelling at the RW fucksticks that i occasionally come across.

14. I am annoyed when news editors substitute the phrase "undocumented person" for "illegal alien."

I don't give a shit. - I don't even know what she fucking means!

15. I do not believe the phrase "a chink in the armor" is offensive.

I don't, but I am unaware of anyone who does. - Roger that.

16. I eat meat.

I do, which is why I believe in strict regulation of the beef industry and more stringent meat inspections, which this administration opposes. - Although I no longer eat beef, until bush*co quits fucking with our health for political reasons and tests EVERY cow.

17. I believe O.J. Simpson was guilty.

He probably was guilty, but the police and prosecution fucked it up and in a democracy when police and prosecutors break the rules and mishandle evidence, sometimes the guilty just have to go free. Perhaps they will be more careful next time. - Roger that.

18. I cheered when I learned that Saddam Hussein had been captured.

No, because it was a pyrrhic victory. Only a wussy like bush* was threatened by that tinhorned dictator enough to start WWIII.

And somewhere I read lee was a Democrat, so by buying/supporting his music isn't that like "voting for a Democrat"?

36. Sorry Mitch, that was bluestatesguy's original comment from post #6
as I said I "borrowed" BSG's post and added my own. As for denigrating someone by calling them gay, I don't think that was done. The comment in question says "And Ken Starr must be outed as gay". Nowhere does it read nor is it implied that BSG is just hurling a bald epithet for it's singular shock value.

Now BSG can correct me if I'm talking out of turn, but since I left that part in my response I will explain myself.

I took that as Ken Starr spent a lot of time and money chasing through the Clinton's closets and that Mr. Starr could use a little peek inside his as well.

Now for your post I'd say your use of "sissy" was gratuitous, but then you wouldn't denigrate someone just for the sake of it, would you?

Peace, brother!

I eat meat, I don't find "chink in the armor" offensive (who does?), and I believe OJ Simpson was guilty. However, the latter is simply based on my own limited judgment/assessment regarding a case I cared very little about but was unable to escape because of media overkill.

Oh, and though I officially boycott the place, I'm guilty of occasional Wal-Mart shopping. I live in a small town and in a crunch it's sometimes the only place open.

25. Crap, I scored a 35
1. I have never voted for a Democrat in my life.

False.

2. I think my taxes are too high.

Flame me if you want, but true. When I add up all taxes that I pay, I'm not keeping nearly enough of what I make, and neither is anyone else in the middle class.

3. I supported Bill Clinton's impeachment.

False.

4. I voted for President Bush in 2000.

False.

5. I am a gun owner.

True, and I own quite a few.

6. I support school voucher programs.

False - I don't care. I'm tired of being treated as if my sole responsibility is to foot the bill for my replacements.

7. I oppose condom distribution in public schools.

Hell, no.

8. I oppose bilingual education.

True.

9. I oppose gay marriage.

False.

10. I want Social Security privatized.

False.

11. I believe racial profiling at airports is common sense.

No, terrorists could just find mules, but age profiling does make some sense. My grandmother is 88, and she was detained for over an hour while every bag age had was searched down to the lint. Singling out people like her to give other people the impression of fairness is absolute horseshit.

12. I shop at Wal-Mart.

False.

13. I enjoy talk radio.

False. I don't even like Air America, and those are the guys I usually agree with. Why people will turn on a radio and listen to know-it-all blowhards is beyond me. I've heard Garofalo's show and it's pretty good, but at a lousy time of the day for me.

14. I am annoyed when news editors substitute the phrase "undocumented person" for "illegal alien."

Actually, I have to confess that this is true. Transaparent terms like this are an insult to anyone's intelligence.

15. I do not believe the phrase "a chink in the armor" is offensive.

True.

16. I eat meat.

True.

17. I believe O.J. Simpson was guilty.

True.

18. I cheered when I learned that Saddam Hussein had been captured.

False. I would have cheered had I heard that he had been killed.

19. I cry when I hear "Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood.

Give me a fucking break.

20. I don't believe the New York Times.

I don't read the New York Times, I read the Washington Post.

29. I've learned this about Michelle Malkin in 5 minutes
of reading her website.

She's the token Asian American on the neo-con team who's agenda as assigned to her is to basically say things like:

  1. Racial Profiling is not only ok, but it'll save life.
  2. American Internment camps during WW2 were a good thing and I'm the only person who you should believe on this issue since I'm Asian American.
  3. Because of #1 & #2, it's ok that we have Guantanimo and in fact we should use racial profiling to send more folks to our modern day internment camps

I hate how the neo-pukes will find minority scabs like this to sell out their heritage in order to promote the neo-con agenda.

You can question her impartiality on this issue as Japan invaded & took over the Philippines in World War 2 while brutalizing the Filipino population. I mean, I'm sure many Americans didn't exactly have a good image of the English in the early 1800s following the Revolution & the War of 1812.

16. Yum.
17. Of course.
18. I thought there might be a slim chance that things would cool down a little in Iraq once he was captured. Whether it helped the Repukes or not, I didn't care as long as the killing would stop. My optimism, of course, was unfounded. :(

41. Michele Malkin is in the same boat as Armstrong Williams
A talking head uncle tom with no sympathy for the millions of ethnic minorities who are trapped in the socio-political and economic sub-strata relegated to the working poor.

Her "theme" is that she sees a Islamic terrorist behind every mosque and ignores the fact that the undocumented are not just pushed into our country by third world poverty, but are pulled to feed into our country's underground economy that provides cheap goods and labor to benefit all the other classes above themselves.

She never posits what would happen to our economy if US foreign policy was changed to allow the third world to stop servicing the first world's economic position through the devices of the debt machine run by the World Bank and the IMF.

Nor does she even considers what would happen if the supply of cheap, undocumented labor was cut off. How prices would steeply rise if American Citizens take their place and would immediately seek worker protections, exercise their right to collective bargaining and engage in union organizing. (Of course If this would happen, our standard of living would begin to rise, the quality of our food would equal on par with much of Western Europe and illegal immigration would decrease dramatically)

To her, any administration that's not in the pocket of big agri-business and a staunch defender of Right-to-Work laws is a direct threat to the position of her masters, the ruling class.

Michele Malkin is the worst kind of media whore. The kind that benefits from the hard works of those who, for so many years, struggled for justice and equality during the civil rights era, yet turns one back and sides with the oppressor.

As far as the boat, analogy, I hope it sinks.
