My cat....it gone mad! Mad I say! |
|
Mischief is charging from one of the house to the other and back again.
I wonder if one of those invisible things they chase has gotten into the house overnight?

Now he is laying on the back of the couch all relaxed with a smug look on his face.

3. LV: Mischief is ripping! You know what ripping is . . . |

It's when a cat absolutely has to beinanotherroomRIGHTNOW!!
When a cat
* puffs the fur on its spine and tail until it looks like a razorback trailing a vacuum hose
* arches its back and leaps sideways a couple of times, then
* FLASH! is gone and
* leaves tufts of carpet swirling furiously in its wake.

12. We Call That A "Cat Wah!" |
|
A "Wah!" (spelled WITH the exclamation point) is a sudden burst of wild activity. There are dog Wah!s cat Wah!s, bird Wah!s, in fact ANY creature can Wah! for any reason and usually none at all. The point of a Wah! is it's pointless. If it had a point, it wouldn't be a Wah!
Wah!s are named after the sudden cry "WAH!" that the activity suggests or elicits.

5. I thought Sid had gone bonkers, too, BUT... |
|
Last night he suddenly began tearing around the house like a mad man, and we both thought he'd just finally 'lost it'; after about 2 minutes of watching him, however, we happened to notice a TINY speck of flying something as he ran past the draperies. it turned out that he was chasing a 'pecker gnat' (non-scientific name :P ) that we just didn't see when he first started.
Maybe you should look more closely, too.

6. It's called "the rips." |
|
It's a buildup of their hunting impulses. Cats have a hunting "drive" not unlike a human libido. To help, you might want to play with the cat, then let him/her "kill" the toy, then give him a treat. That should stop it.
Or, just let him/her go nuts!

8. My cats do that when gnats get in the house |
|
They'll also stand up and jump and swat at them. They look quite insane, but they're just trying to be badass hunters.

10. my cat attacked the apartment maintenance man yesterday |
|
the guy came in to fix my overhead kitchen light; he was carrying a ladder and those long white light tubes and Clancy stiffened up and hissed at him. The guy was apparently deathly afraid of cats because he said WOULD YOU PLEASE PUT HIM UP and his face was kinda white. So I put Clancy into the bedroom, then stepped in the bathroom to wash my hands (I had just returned from emptying the garbage). That's when I heard the guy screaming THAT CAT IS ATTACKING ME. I went in the kitchen and Clancy was arched up and hissing at the guy and kinda swatting at the ladder. :O

11. Cats do that all the time... |
|
at least the 15+ I have had over my lifetime. :)
I call it "the runs", and my current crop had it BAD the past few days. I have a small, two story house and they start in the kitchen and run furiously down the stairs and into the basement, then are deathly quiet for a few minutes, then raise hell on the return trip.
Did I mention this is generally done at around 5:00 am?

My cat, Oops (he was named when he fell off our very high deck as a kitten - twice) will every once in a while become fixated at a crack in the floor. He'll stare at it, then arch his back and suddenly, leap straight up with all four feet off the floor, coming down and batting wildly at it. Then he will dash into the kitchen, back into the living room and do it again. Then he'll look around like he's embarassed and begin cleaning himself as if to say, "What? I'm just washing. Nothing to see here."
Cats are a riot.
