I saw a white supremacist in Wal-Mart today!

Yes, unfortunately I needed a cheap phone cord and a CD tower, and having exhausted all my other options, I buckled down and went to Wally World. Now, I've lived all but two of my years on this planet in the buckle of the bible belt (Texas and Oklahoma), but one thing I will never, ever get used to is going into Wal-Mart. To put it simply, that place is fucking scary. The town I'm from is a Christo-fascist Republican fortress, but a wealthy one, so I was able to live for a long time without ever having to visit a Wal-Mart. However, a couple of years ago, a Wal-Mart Supercenter moved onto the outskirts of town. I was fascinated, but should have known better. All of the trolls from the Piney Woods flocked to that place like camoflauged moths to a trash-fire.

However, even that did not prepare me for what I saw today. Just as I was walking in, I saw a kid, maybe 14 or 15, walking with his mother. He was wearing a t-shirt with a picture of Hitler on it. The heading underneath the picture said "Adolf Hitler - European Tour: 1939-1945". I was a little taken aback, as it isn't everyday you see an Adolf Hitler t-shirt. So when I got home tonight, I typed in "adolf hitler european tour" and the first site on the list was for a "Panzerfaust Records." I didn't have to or want to open that page up. Yuck.

The simple joys of living in a Red State.:grr:

25. Why would anyone name a record company after a panzerfaust...
Ok, so it could take out a Sherman tank with ease, but thats assuming you could hit it... It was a "one-shot-throw-away" with bad accuracy.

not Panzerfaust.

4. When I see things like that, I start whistling
a tune from South Pacific. If you don't know it, here's some of the lyrics:

You've got to be taught to hate and fear
You've got to be taught from year to year
It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught
Before it's too late
Before you are six or seven or eight
To hate all the people your relatives hate
You've got to be carefully taught.....

5. God, that sounds awful
I've never actually been inside a Wal-Mart. There don't appear to be any in Seattle (although there is a Sam's Club in feeble competition with locally owned Costco).

However, as I was driving up and down I-5 to and from Portland, I saw plenty of them in our "red" area of Western Washington. Plus, I saw about a dozen Wal-Mart semis on the road.

They're everywhere. They're the devil.:scared:

That experience could really only happen to you, Fen. A kid in a Hitler t-shirt? You should have slipped him a copy of The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich! :D

FY, the kid wouldn't have read "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" . . .
It has too many words, in print too small and dense. Maybe for him the comic book version.

10. Four years ago, I was doing research for a short story I wanted to...
...write about a pair of rabbis who create a golem to counter a spate of anti-Semitic violence in Manhattan. When I got on-line, my search took me to a label called Resistance Records, which I have to assume was along the lines of that Panzerfaust thing you found today. As such, you have my condolences!

11. True story about the date from hell
When my mother was newly divorced, a nice man she didn't know well asked her out for a halloween date. She was happy that she was "still dateable" and said yes.

He showed up at our door in a full Nazi uniform with a Hitler mustache glued above his upper lip.

She just laughed in his face and asked if he was crazy. He left in a huff.

Wow.

I remember seeing someone in the very same t-shirt about a decade or so back, and i thought it was a hoot...and the person was far from a white supremecist(unless they can be black).

I need my whites white, man. Can't stand dingy, graying or yellowish linens on my table. My baby loves to wear white t-shirts (and I love her in white t-shirts) and those t-shirts must be supremely white!

Made you look. ;) Hope you'll forgive me. This is what passes for a sense of humor in my world these days.

21. my 2 cents-I live in Dallas
I live in the Beltway(inside 635/LBJ freeway) where there are no wal-Marts but if you drive out further there are P-lenty.
I'm female and for a while they had a monopoly on this line of cosmetics (Rimmel for you if you're interested) but lately I have seen it FINALLY stocked at Walgreen's and Ulta. So I can't make myself go to Wal-Mart now. It's like bizarro world, isn't it?
Hang in there Fenris, I've been here for 4 and 1/2 yrs after 13 yrs in Phoenix, land of healing energy and crystal power LOL. I imported my boyfriend here from Kentucky- I didn't want to date any men from Texas, or who at least were yee-haw about being from Texas,
well, that's more than I thought I would write.
BTW how does one create a blog?

Was his head shaved? Did he have any neo-nazi tattoo's? Anything other than a t-shirt? Was his mother goose stepping? Saying sig-hiel or anything?
Geeze, my nephew wore a Curt Cobain t-shirt for two years after Curt killed himself. No, my nephew wasn't shooting heroin, he was trying to "shock people".

35. I've seen that shirt.
It has "tour dates" on the back, listing the dates when Germany invaded various European nations. Russia is stamped "cancelled," which completely cracks my ass the fuck up and makes me suspect it's just extremely grim sardonic humor. I doubt that when it was conceived it had any more to do with actual Nazism than the Ramones, Sex Pistols or Joy Division's flirtations with fascist imagery.

OTOH, a 15 year old kid wearing that on a shopping trip in the company of his mom probably isn't wearing it out of any deeply held love of irony.
