EVER HAD THIS FEELING? The US athlete is coming in to the stretch... |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 03:59 AM by UdoKier
...at the Olympics, it's neck and neck with XXX country, but at the last minute, the American summons that last bit of strength, blasts through, it's over and he got the gold!!!
And then your elation fades as the American proceeds to do a semi-vulgar dance, thrust his face at the camera, bellow at the crowd with an attitude of "Fuck Y'all! I'm (XXX), the greatest motherfucker in the world! Suck it!"
Is it just me, or are more and more athletes acting like this?
Is there no grace or humility left in the world?
Is sportsmanship just a quaint notion now?
And 30+ players booted for doping?
Between that and all the new boring-ass events like beach volleyball and men's synchronized swimming, I'm over the Olympics. (Exept for judo - I'm there)

and Judo is boring ass.
Another one of those sports where people stand around tugging on each other's clothes.
Personally, I'm looking forward to WOmen's Sumo wrestling ...

I’m not an American and it seems that certain sports rather than countries elicit this behaviour. The 100m for men being the worst event for strutting “look at my body” machismo I just think the yanks are better at the “in your face stuff” than other countries. I think it makes them all look like idiots.
Watch the rowing. There’s genuine respect for other competitors, pleasure in winning and grace in defeat. Canada’s loss to the U.K in the coxless fours being a great example. Canada lost by less than a foot. They immediately congratulated the Brits and recognised their achievement.
Of course, the funniest moment of the games has been provided by an American. The unfortunate failure of the Men’s shot putter to achieve gold really was pretty funny. I feel for the guy but if there was ever an example of getting over psyched this was it. No amount of shouting and hitting yourself will make the shot go further.

at least three of the gold medal winners are from my part of Japan. One of them lives down the road from my boss. Another attended the same Japanese university I did. Judo's certainly been the hot story around here!
