What one word could you do without? |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 11:01 AM by Beware the Beast Man
DUers, what one word in the English language could you do without?
Here are the guidelines, to make it more interesting: 1. No curse words. These are an easy mark. 2. Same applies to ethnic and racial slurs. Again way too easy to eliminate these. 3. Anyhting word we use around here to apply to Right-wing politics, such as bush, fundie, freeper, terra, conservative, etc.
Example- pantaloons
Good luck!

"Vitriol"
Was that word in Newt's list? It's gotta have been! Almost every LTTE written by neocon/traditional-con in the past ten years uses that word in place of "criticism" when bringing up points made by Dem's.
Second on the list (and it invariably precedes "Vitriol" Every Single Time) is "Spew". My eyes have grown accustomed to seeing the phrase, "...spew vitriol" in LTTE and editorials before I read the article in question and I can almost always predict that it will be one eye-roller of a piece... :eyes:

I'm usually pretty mellow, but when I hear a teen say that I want to throttle the peanuts and corn out of the little shithead. I can't explain why it bothers me to such a degree, but what I do know is that it sounds like a pathetic attempt to be cool.

13. "Frankly" - go ahead and be frank if you want - just don't tell me you |
|
about it ahead of time. Usually it means you are going to say something to advance your agenda and you are trying to convince me that you are just such a straight shooter (while we are at it, another term I am not fond of) that you just can't help yourself, so therefore if I take any offence, it is somehow MY problem. Frankly it pisses me off.

It, like, really annoys me the way people, like, always stick that word into their sentences, like, two or three times without even, like, realizing they're doing it.
I want to, like, strangle them. Like.
