Ever had a "hot stone" massage?
I heard they're amazing, but I don't get the concept...

1. well, the stones hold the heat for a long time, and they sit on yer
muscles in just the right places and they loosen you all up, or something like that.

2. The heated rocks assist in the release and deep...
relaxation of harder to reach chronically held pain.

I start massage school tomorrow (career change), so this is right up my alley. Get one, you will love it.

3. I start massage school in January!
I don't think we will be learning hot stone massage as part of the regular curriculum, but I'd be interested in learning more about it. :hi:

7. Neither are we, but I am taking it as an extra, an add-on to the main core
It is included in the "Spa Therapy Classes" along with Aromatherapy massage, salt scrubs and herbal wraps.

Good to hear from a fellow massage student. I wish you luck in your studies. I am very excited about it.

You can probably find more info on the Internet by doing a Google search on Hot Rock Massage. Here is a brief description I found...

8. Thanks for that link!
My focus will be more medical. I'd like to work with fibromyalgia patients and others with chronic pain. Good luck to you too!:hi:

9. Thanks. Good for you. You know a friend, a practicing...
masseur, recommended that after school I work with a medical facility or a chiropractor (although I do not like them in general) just to learn about pain and the body. She said what you learn in school is good, but you really need to understand it in a practical environment. I thought I would pass this advice along.

If you have any questions later on or need to talk, just shoot me a PM here. Best to you.

10. I will definitely do that
And thanks again. I've received tons of massage, so I have that going for me. I'm starting an anatomy class in November and I'm already reading the book (I'm such a geek!). :hi:

11. HAHAHAHA..... You are one up on me.
My first class, tomorrow, is Anatomy and Physiology. Our book is "The Anatomy Coloring Book", by Elson. One has visions of childhood and coloring Disney characters, oh no. I opened the book and my mouth dropped. We have lots of parts in our bodies...LOL.

12. We have to use the Anatomy Coloring book too!
It cracked me up, but I guess it's a good way to learn!

Just be sure to stay in the lines! ;)

13. I used that book in massage school too. It really helped
I took a basic course (150 hours) and really want to go back and learn other modalities like aromatherapy and myocfascial release...

Good luck to both of you at school!

14. Yep.
I'm going to have to call and get one this week, just reading this thread.

They sit there and warm up your muscles, release some of the tension before any massage happens.
