I'm getting a hearing aid. Which are the best.? How long do the batteries last? Do you wear them in bed?

http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/hearing/hearingaid.aspIt'll give you some info at least. Too bad - I am certain I'm not far behind ya, though.

2. I'm not hearing impaired but have worked with ENT's on hearing loss |

cases.
What are your needs?
Are you around sudden loud noises? If so, then you want aids with automatic shut off circuitry so as to not harm your hearing further should this occur.
Aids with low, med, high or "telephone" adjustments are good.
Batteries, if you are getting two aids, should cost around 32$ per year per ear. Some batteries last weeks...some only las several days depending on usage.
Are you concerned with appearance at all? If so, there are aids that are "in the canal" type that are hardly visible to anyone and can easily be covered by hair.
A good pair of electronic circuitry aids with auto shut off will run you in the vicinity of 1500 a piece.

11. Then what you may want is a "cross curcuit" aid |
|
This is an aid that tranfers hearing from the good ear to the deaf ear...it makes it easier to feel balanced when listening...
Best wishes...do make sure you get the "auto shutoff" feature as a sudden loud noise in your good ear with aids could be injurious.

5. I've worn a hearing aid for over 10 years. |
|
The new digital are suppose to be great. Expensive, though. I change the battery about once a week. Take that sucker out before you go to bed! One benefit is I get a good night's sleep. I do miss all those middle of the night thunderstorms, though. It's important to learn to be assertive about your hearing loss. I try to sit in the corner in restaurants, helps with hearing your dinner partners. I also TELL people that I'm hearing impaired, not rude, I just didn't hear them (then THEY apologize! Why? It's not their fault!). If you don't know what direction the sound is coming from, stop & wait for clues. Ditto for crossing a street. I just have to pay a little more attention to the details. Good luck. My theory is with all the loud music the Boomers heard in the 70's, a hearing aid will be the latest status symbol.

It works great!
I've had these hearing aids for over 10 years.
Digital too.
Also, use Energizer for your batteries, not Zinc-Air - they're crap.
Silver works better.

13. Not sure. Something around $1,200 per.. |
|
'Course, I had my Vocational Rehab pay for it. Maybe VA will pay for the hearing aids too.
