Heartburn help - what works best |
|
Geez, my stomach is burning - I'm not sure what I've ate but I've never felt such pain. What works best - I'm not going to be able to get into my doctor before I leave for NYC

I could send you some Nexium.:)
I also find Prilosec OTC works just as well.

|
It's really expensive, IIRC.

12. It's actually slightly different |
|
My doctor described the difference to me once - Nexium is more effective. She is always good at giving free samples, though. :)

16. What I recall is that Nexium actually helps heal the esophagus |
|
I loved it when I took it, but it was too expensive. :(

3. Cut back on alcohol, carbonated beverages and acidic foods |
|
In the meantime, take OTC Pepcid AC - that works for me.
It sucks, I know, I've had it off and on since high school.

7. Maalox or Mylanta works best for me. You might |
|
also want to try some Prilosec or Pepcid. They don't really work for me alone, I need the Maalox and Mylanta with them. Just be careful, too much Maalox and you may not be able to get out of the bathroom.
I am currently taking Prevacid and it is really helping. I also just found out that I need to have my gallbladder removed, it is causing the reflux problem I have been having for months now.
Hope you feel better soon. You may want to follow up with the doctor if your symptoms stick around.

I take something called Acifex. One tiny pill in the AM and I can eat and drink whatever and never have that horrible reflux!!!

13. If it's chronic --here's the bad news. |
|
It could be acid reflux. That means some major changes in eating. My SO has it and only found relief after medication and no more coffee, carbonated beverages, spicy foods, acidy things like orange juice and tomato sauce. There are times that he has difficulty with chocolate.
Sucks the big one.
Hope in your case you can take some TUMs or Rolaids and make it go away.

15. Baking soda and water |
|
about 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in a couple of ounces of water. Stir well and drink in one gulp. It's not the best tasting thing in the world, but it sure gets rid of stomach acid.
