Hey divers.. Why do divers take a shower after every dive? |
|
Just watching the Olympics and wondering. The only thing I can figure is maybe the chlorine?

4. That's what I've always thought, too... |
|
It's got to be rough on your skin/hair, diving every day for hours at a time!

5. I've been wondering the same thing too. Chlorine, or maybe temp? |
|
Maybe the pool is cold, the shower is warm?

They need to keep their muscles loose so they take a warm shower.

8. I don't know, but that 10 meter platform competition was phenomenal |
|
It was among the highest caliber of any event at these Games, and well worth watching in the West or anyplace it has not aired.
Two Chinese, an Australian and a Canadian, with perfect 10s and tiny splashes all over the place. I won't spoil with the outcome.

9. Perhaps they feel dirty getting all that TV exposure for something |
|
as silly as high diving?
Or, maybe, that is the symbolic purification of the soul of the warrior spirit, washing off the blood of the battle and preparing for world peace?
Or, maybe their brains are rattled from exposure to all that gravity-impact thing and they want to make sure all their parts are present and accounted for?

10. I read that it was to warm up |
|
Evidently, the pool is cold and the shower is hot. What I wondered was why all of them are holding a towel while they shower. That seems pretty pointless.

11. The chlorine in the pool is pretty intense. |
|
After awhile, it starts to burn and do damage to all body parts touching it.
Brittle hair, not to mention eyes - yeouch!
The wanking is just a side benifit!

12. And chlorine does a fantastic job |
|
of turning blonde hair green. Many public Pools use something else besides or in addition to chlorine and it is killer on the skin and eyes. I can't think of the name of it but a guest ranch I use to work at used it in their pool and hot tub. Your skin itched uncomfortably and it felt like you had just been soaked in de-greaser. Best to keep that crap rinsed off.
