1) Will the hurricane or himacane help or hurt either party?
2) When does the current season end, and is there a chance that Florida can get hit by one on 11/02?
3) If so, what are the chances that someone's brother will take advantage of the situation re: polls, counting, etc?
4) let's say 3-4 storms hit Florida. Who gains from that politically?
Weather does impact elections. IN Chicago, Papa Doc Daley died and was replaced by Mike Bilandic. He served two terms before suffering a winter storm, then losing badly to Crazy Jane, the first female Mayor of Chicago, Jane Byrne. Bilandic stood in front of the TV and said, we are getting it done. WE are working to clear the streets. Unfortunately, there were 12 inchs of street to clear, and many people couldn't even find which lump was their car before they started to dig. The consensus is the storm killed his chance for a 3d term. Instead, he was sent to purgatory, the Illinois Supreme Court, where he lived happily ever after until he died.
His effort to maintain the "peace" cost him the election. (but gave us not only Byrne (who Mike Royko managed to skewer like a pig on a spit) but Harold Washington, council wars, Fast Eddie Vrdolyack as the racist in chief and many, many other entertaining times)
If this second storm is followed by a 3d or a 4th, what will the impact be on Florida, and ultimately, the nation?
