What do you think of the new Bjork CD? |
|
I was never interested in Bjork before and hadn't herd any of her music. But I recently read a profile about her in a recent New Yorker and found her quite interesting. So I picked up some of her stuff and find it quite compelling. Some pretty out there stuff. How did she become this huge name with music so different and challenging?

1. THanks for the reminder -- I need to get my paws on a copy. |
|
The song I heard was a lot different, but I liked it. I'll reserve judgement until I grab a copy, though.

"How did she become this huge name with music so different and challenging?"
Well, she's an amazing performer, has a totally unique voice, is great songwriter, and has crafted a brilliant personal style and mystique that fit her music perfectly. She has also been around a long time (started out in the Sugarcubes and even did stuff as a kid in Iceland I believe) and worked with lots of other interesting and talented people. I haven't heard her new album yet but if you're just getting into Bjork you should go back and check out all of her great previous work. Vespertine is one of my faves. Also check out the movie Dancer in the Dark to see her give a pretty brilliant on screen performance (in less-than-perfect real life circumstances).

I can't wait to check it out. Personally I'm into a lot of experimental music so while I like a lot of her earlier pop stuff I didn't get THAT into her until more recently. But I think she has developed into a musical genius of the first order.
