I am headed over to a friends and I don't want to just bring a bottle of bushmills. Is there another available in the US that is better? Keep in mind I am a democrat so I can't afford a bottle of Brennans Black for 275$ Thanks all

4. Jameson is real Irish whiskey. Way better than Bushmills. |
|
Of course, Democrat or not, I suggest Middleton for a quality tipple. It's one of the 10 finest whiskies in the world. It is also $100 a bottle. Okay, don't buy it for your friend, but buy it for yourself. Only have one drink of it at a time, and it'll last you for years. And spread out over years? It's a BARGAIN! :D

11. OR, to be REALLY Irish... |
|
Bring 'em a bottle of poteen. It's basically Everclear. It's made only for export in Ireland, they can't even consume it there. I brought some to a party and it went fast, it's a great mixer.

13. On my first visit to Ireland ... |
|
... a number of years ago, one of my Irish co-workers gave me some home-brewed poteen. Rotten stuff. I could burp three days later and still taste the stuff.

... which is impossible to find here in the States. My Irish-in-laws all are required to bring a bottle of Paddy's when they visit.
The next best Irish whiskey is Power's which is readily available in your finest booze-marts.
Bushmill is usually held in disdain by some in the Republic due to perceived Bushmill discrimination against Catholics.
BTW: I prefer couple shots of Power's mixed with Vernor's Ginger Ale on a hot summer evening. Hmmm .... good.

A bit pricey, but worth the $75 just to have it for special occasions. :)
