When you're lost in the rain in Juarez and it's Eastertime too |
|
When you're lost in the rain in Juarez And it's Eastertime too And your gravity fails And negativity don't pull you through Don't put on any airs When you're down on Rue Morgue Avenue They got some hungry women there And they really make a mess outa you.
Now if you see Saint Annie Please tell her thanks a lot I cannot move My fingers are all in a knot I don't have the strength To get up and take another shot And my best friend, my doctor Won't even say what it is I've got.
Sweet Melinda The peasants call her the goddess of gloom She speaks good English And she invites you up into her room And you're so kind And careful not to go to her too soon And she takes your voice And leaves you howling at the moon.
Up on Housing Project Hill It's either fortune or fame You must pick up one or the other Though neither of them are to be what they claim If you're lookin' to get silly You better go back to from where you came Because the cops don't need you And man they expect the same. Now all the authorities They just stand around and boast How they blackmailed the sergeant-at-arms Into leaving his post And picking up Angel who Just arrived here from the coast Who looked so fine at first But left looking just like a ghost.
I started out on burgundy But soon hit the harder stuff Everybody said they'd stand behind me When the game got rough But the joke was on me There was nobody even there to bluff I'm going back to New York City I do believe I've had enough.

5. Look out of any window |
|
any morning, any evening, any day Maybe the sun is shining birds are winging or rain is falling from a heavy sky - What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through? this is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago Walk out of any doorway feel your way, feel your way like the day before Maybe you'll find direction around some corner where it's been waiting to meet you - What do you want me to do, to watch for you while you're sleeping? Well please don't be surprised when you find me dreaming too
Look into any eyes you find by you, you can see clear through to another day I know it's been seen before through other eyes on other days while going home -- What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through? It's all a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago
Walk into splintered sunlight Inch your way through dead dreams to another land Maybe you're tired and broken Your tongue is twisted with words half spoken and thoughts unclear What do you want me to do to do for you to see you through A box of rain will ease the pain and love will see you through
Just a box of rain - wind and water - Believe it if you need it, if you don't just pass it on Sun and shower - Wind and rain - in and out the window like a moth before a flame
It's just a box of rain I don't know who put it there Believe it if you need it or leave it if you dare But it's just a box of rain or a ribbon for your hair Such a long long time to be gone and a short time to be there
(if it was good enough for Phil's dad, it's damn sure good enough for your grandma :))

10. I thought you hated Bob Dylan. |
|
At least you did in high school and college. Ran screaming from the room, I recall, in New Orleans, when I put "Hard Rain" on the turntable. Then again, you didn't like Genesis, either, and we all know you like them now, so......whahoppa?!
Anyways, Josh, sorry to hear about your grandmother. Is this your dad's or your mom's or a step-parent's? Mabe (my mom's mom) had two really bad strokes a few years ago, but she's still kicking (and dyeing her hair black too; some people just can't age with dignity) and every week or so my mther calls me crying, telling me how Mabe isn't long for this world, etc. But she still dances, and *gasp* goes on dates....
Are you at work?

1 - Dylan. I always loved EARLY Dylan. Hated later. My tastes have evolved though
2 - My grandmother (Bill's mother - Wolff and Ivans GM as well) is 91 and has lived a long life of kisses and profanity
We'll be alright

I woke today... And felt your side of bed The covers were still warm where you'd been layin'. You were gone... My heart was filled with dread. You might not be sleepin' here again
It's alright, 'cause I love you. And that's not gonna change. Run me round, make me hurt again and again. But I'll still sing you love songs Written in the letters of your name. And brave the storm to come, For it surely looks like rain.
Did you ever waken to the sound Of street cats makin' love And guess from their cries You were listenin' to a fight? Well, you know... Hate's just the last thing they're thinkin' of. They're only trying to make it through the night.
I only want to hold you. I don't want to tie you down. Or fence you in the lines I might have drawn. It's just that I've gotten used to Havin' you around. My landscape would be empty If you were gone.

It sounds like you're ready. I lost mine just over five years ago but it still seems like yesterday I was visiting her... I still talk to her often.
For some reason, reading this thread reminded me of Isabel Allende, and her comments to Bill Moyers on the death of her daughter, Paula.
I thought I'd find out why, and I did... so here it is. Isabel had just commented that the last year she spent with her daughter was terrible and great. Bill asked why.
ISABEL ALLENDE: Because you hope and hope. And then each day you realize that there's nothing to hope except that she dies without pain. And it was great, because in that year, I threw overboard everything that is not necessarily to keep on walking.
And at the end of the year, I thought I had thrown overboard everything. That nothing was left. And I realize that that's not true. I had what I had given her.
She was... she couldn't... I don't know if she received the love and the care. Maybe she didn't, because she was like a vegetable. But what we gave her as a family made us so much stronger. And it united us in incredible ways. It took away all the fear.
BILL MOYERS: The fear of?
ISABEL ALLENDE: The fear of life. I'm not afraid anymore. What's the worst that can happen, Bill? Death. And that's going to happen to everybody.
BILL MOYERS: And you're not afraid of death?
ISABEL ALLENDE: Not at all. Not at all.
