Why is it acceptable for men to be braless, but not women?
Never mind shirts for a minute. I want to know why I have to walk around all day with a harness that restrains my boobs? Some men have boobs as big as mine, and they seem to display them proudly. It's such a letdown for me, having grown up in the bra-optional 70's, to see young women now actually causing themselves pain with underwires. It's like a capitalist Taliban movement. All I can think of is bondage.

2. AMEN, SISTA!
(although I have to say that I love the underwire)

I've seen men at the beach with bigger tits than mine, and my cup size runs to the multiple Ds. Nobody wants to look at that.

4. It is pretty damn stupid, ain't it?
I don't have a problem with wanting to keep private parts covered, but what the hell is so "dirty" about a woman's chest that's perfectly okay about a man's? I mean, at least women don't shed chest hair everywhere they go....

5. I get sick when I see men shirtless in situations where they shouldn't be.
It seems that it's perfectly acceptable for a man to be shirtless at a game, at the zoo, at the park, etc. Yet people stare at me when I dare to nurse my baby in a public place. Screw them, they aren't seeing anything they don't pay to see in other places.

If you don't want to wear a bra--don't. No one's making you, right? I have to so I do.

Still, I'm sure my boss would have something to say if I took my DDs to class unbound. Especially when I took my kids out to PE. Imagine the jumping jacks.

Edited on Fri Sep-05-03 02:19 PM by Richardo
...quite the contrary. :P

IMHO, women bring a lot of fashion torture on themselves. Does any straight guy really care what your shoes look like? If you're wearing a thong? If you have a bra on? If you're wearing panty hose? (Answer: no.)

Get comfortable, ladies!

9. as a heterosexual 20-year-old male,
i fervently advocate that women stand up to the corporatist capitalist machine and lose their bras. while it may not provide the mental liberation that women think it will, it will give me another reason to leave my los angeles apartment and walk down westwood blvd, as it is cheaper than seeing a movie.

I never wear a bra around the house, and sometimes forget to wear one when I go out. If we are supposed to wear bras all the time, then men should wear cups all the time. If I can't swing, he can't swing!

14. We call them the "Manzzier" or the crudely named "Bro"
we don' t wear them because (generally) we don't have that same sort of gravitiational pull issue as the ladies.

If you want to protest, I'll throw my support behind you and stop wearing tighty whiteys...

They give me some help in holding those dogs, oy.

I've got big ones (and I'm just doped enough on Claritin-D to admit that, LOL).

When I don't wear a bra, my back, neck, and shoulders hurt, my body is pulled forward, and my posture is about as good as Quasimodo's.

You'll take my underwire from my cold, dead hands, LOL!

19. Exactly...
I'm a big girl ;-) and if I don't wear one most of the time it makes my back hurt.

Much as I would love to participate in a little boobie-liberation and bra-burning radicalism, I think I'll keep the support thank you.

24. bras may be bad for you
There's a book and several web sites purporting the connection between bras and breast cancer. The book is "Dressed to Kill" by Sidney Ross Singer and Soma Grismaijer.

According to the authors: "when thebreast is chronically restricted by a bra, the lymph system that surrounds it may become blocked -- preventing it from carrying out its function of removing toxins from the area, and thus making cancer more
likely." Surveying almost 5,000 women in major cities in the United
States, they claim to have found that women who wore their bras so
tightly as to cause red marks on their skin, or wore bras more than 12
hours a day, were much more likely to have contracted breast cancer.

http://lists.isb.sdnpk.org/pipermail/health-list-old/1998-March/000866.html

"More research is being done, but I personally think that women need to be aware of this idea, so they can do the research themselves. As one site said, years ago people thought that linking cigarettes to lung cancer was ridiculous, and this is really not that different, given the players. Both the medical and clothing industries have lots of money to lose if these findings are proven more substantially than they are now - and the findings reach the public -

18. I go for comfort - myself
I wear flats and comfortable clothes. I wear a bra when I want - but not because I 'Have'" to.

But then - I didn't change much from the 70's. I didn't figure I was going to change just because society did. Anyway - there are still comfortable fashions. Flax, for instance.

I think it makes more sense for the women who don't want to wear bras to not wear them than it does to say the since women do - men should.

And another thing... bras seem to emphasize breasts more than de-emphasize them - unless it's a sports bra. And I don't think any "moobs' need to be emphasized. Eeeewwwwwww.

20. Set them free
I go braless whenever possible but I'm occasionally concerned about the *ahem* visual impact. Some Qs for the guys here:

Would you respect a woman as much who came to a job interview without a bra on?

A business meeting?

work in an office?

30. So how do the Christians on European beaches justify
the women sunning themselves? (Seriously, I would like an answer; I know that Italy kinda shuns it, but much of Europe is not that uptight).

I always wondered: Isn't a "French-Cut" bikini just the bottoms?

23. I think it's more women that would be upset than men.
When I'm downtown where there's lots of folks walking around, every now and then you'll see some woman with no bra and the first ones to complain or make a comment are women. Men don't say anything, they don't care because it gives them something to look at.

32. My step mom bought me my first bra
It was a C size cup when I was twelve. Since I've gotten used to wearing a bra, any heavy activity like running, walking up stares, or playing frisbee or other sports almost require one for me. They hurt when they bounce. I do not wear underwire bras for the most part though.
