Singers that sound great on records but horrible live? |
|
I'll go w/ Amy Lee of Evanescence.
That chick cannot sing live to save her ass!

18. When she did the live show for HBO a few years back she lipsynced... |
|
I don't mind lip syncing if you're running around, dancing, putting on a good show. Otherwise: LEARN TO FUCKING SING. Duckie

3. An announcer at the classical station where I used to volunteer |
|
told me that he had seen Andrea Bocelli live and that he actually has a very weak voice that requires amplification.
But actually, a lot of the "manufactured" pop singers, the kind who are chosen for their looks rather than their singing voices, are like this. A good recording engineer can cover up a multitude of weaknesses.

"Snakes and Ladders" tour. One show was spectacular, one was horrible. Like Jekyll and Hyde, those guys.

I saw them way back in 1991 or 1992 at my college and they were ATROCIOUS. Roland Gift or whatever his name was could not sing, the backing vocals were either prerecorded or nonexistent, the keyboardist was incompetent, and I couldn't hear the guitar player for the life of me. Total studio trickery is right. It's no wonder they vanished so quickly and irrevocably.
Another vote, BTW - - Puddle of Mudd. Saw them about two months ago in an outdoor ampitheatre and I was like, um, ok, give me a recording contract. The guy's voice was absolutely horrible.

I can tolerate her studio recordings but I " cringe " whenever I see or here her on television shows . She goes off key a lot .

In fact that was my choice just on reading the thread title. Saw an "E" concert and was very disappointed.

Years ago I saw them and the band was competent, but he couldn't sing to save his life! I wondered how they had ever gotten a record contract.

A great voice for pop standards, but live it's like D-grade Las Vegas. Absolutely awful!
