You shouldn't exactly be ashamed... repentant would be good, embarrassed I could understand, confused, lost in bad-taste land, uneducated about music, or unconscious are all possible. Try to heal with some Radiohead, Beethoven, or OK Go.

Even noise is preferable to pop folk/rock. Radiohead is experimental rock, and like any art that is experimental, it takes time and thoughtfulness and information to appreciate it fully. Read some stuff about their music, listen to Kid A while looking at the lyrics, let it sink in, and then see what you think. These guys are making the most interesting rock today and also have a good liberal message.
