Should I buy a Pentium M 725 now or wait for the Sonoma?
I'm kinda hoping the price goes down on the Dothan by then.

3. Did AMD fix their bus speed issue? |
|
When I was looking last year, you could not get an AMD with a front side bus at 800 Mhz.
a 2.4 GHz machine with a 400Mhz FSB is much slower than a 2.4 GHz machine with a 800MHz FSB.

7. The only time you would notice either as being slower is |
|
if all you do is run benchmark software all day.
That's what he meant by his comment on marketing.
In actual real-world use, the greater efficiency of the AMD processor itself makes up for any perceived speed increase via the FSB.
Either way, what you're actually getting is a 200 mhz FSB (Intel uses a 4x multiplier, AMD a 2x).

5. Yeah, I'm contemplating the AMD 64 |
|
But I'm not much of a gamer, desktop apps are more my thing.

2. I don;t have an answer to the specific question |
|
however, you can proabbly find a good deal here:
www.pricewatch.com
They link to various vendors. -- Of course, some vendors list cheap crap, but off a build your own system, where you can substitute decent components.
I bought one a little over a year ago from a vendor linked there -- www.pcusa.com
