I got a letter from a freeper Saturday
Last week I had a letter to the editor printed in my local paper. a couple of days later, I received a letter from a gentlemen from the area. In it he called me a "mentally disturbed liberal" and said I would sleep better if I became a republican. He then listed a litany of Clinton problems including Waco, raping, Vince Foster. At the end he put down a quote from Michael Savage ("We all have constitutional rights.") I figured he just sits there all day and listens to this crap. He asked me to write him back and hoped I wasn't mad at him.

2. I wouldn't dignify him with a response.
Or, if anything, give him a 2 word "Wake up!" response.

4. sounds as though he was at least polite
while he insulted you.

I doubt opening a dialogue with him would change anything, as he sounds pretty far gone, but you could at least thank him for his concern, and likewise remind him of the litany of BushCo lies that have cost the lives of thousands of people, and destroyed the good standing of the US internationally. ;-)

6. Let him know what his President is up to.
Remind him that this country did not use systematic torture or start aggressive wars against other nations based on false pretenses under Clinton. Tell him our troops were safest under Clinton than they were under Reagan, Bush I and Bush II. Let him know about the lost jobs, the drastic drop in the average wage and outsourcing. Ask him if he has any grandchildren of military age and let him know that Bushco is planning on implementing a draft so they can start more wars of aggression under false pretenses. Hope he doesn't mind sending his posterity to die needlessly for Bush. Man, there is just so much fodder from the Bush administration that it's hard to know where to start or end.

Wait till they mail you death threats.

I wouldn't be polite, and I wouldn't be kind, I would blast his stupid ass right out of the water.

16. This happened to a friend of mine
here, when she wrote a letter praising our paper for publishing the announcments of gay commitment ceremonies.

We think he got her mail through a connection at DPS (DMV everywhere else), since her address had the same misspelling error on her driver's license.

Fortunately, her husband is a US attorney! This guy may have bit off more than he was ready for.

fetoe, I wouldn't even dignify it with a response. It could escalate, and if this person already knows where you live, you never know what could set him off.

10. Why don't these people wake up and realize...
President Clinton is no longer the President. I am constantly told by Republicans to "get over" the stealing of the election and to "get over" the fact that we are in an illegal war and yet these people cannot/will not get over Bill Clinton.

11. If he's quoting Michael Savage,
he's probably beyond reasoning with. I'd let it drop and not write him back.

12. I think it was Adlai Stevenson who would reply to such things
with a letter that said:

Dear Sir:
I received the enclosed crank letter from someone posing as you. I thought as a responsible citizen you would want to know that someone is trying to tarnish your good name by sending out this sort of tripe.
Sincerely,

13. "We all have constitutional rights."
When was the last time the Democrats:

Purged a voter list.
Went to court to stop vote counting.
Sponsored an amendment to the constitution to take away someone's rights or potential rights.
Call for an amendment to coerce others to participate in activities like prayer against their will.
Forced people to sign loyalty oaths.
Banned people from attending their rallies.
Set up a "free speech zone" for GOP protesters.
Accused someone or treason for exercising their constitutional rights.

They are immune to true thoughts. For example, Some numb nut in the local freeper rag complained about a Molly Ivins and Susan Estrich's columns and longed for the return of Ann Coulter's brand of common sense.
