Elkton, MD - Just got back from.............. |
|
Went to visit my brother who just bought a house there. Beautiful area and his house overlooks the Elk river and C&D canal. Gorgeous view.
Question......Is anybody familiar with the area and would it be advantageous to move there? It seems the housing prices are not all that different from CT but it would put me closer to my customers in DC. I guess my real question is are there any downsides to the area that the casual visitor wouldn't know about? Any help would be appreciated.

are sky high...terrible traffic...very high humidity in the summer...
don't get me wrong...there is some beautiful countryside out that way...but it was costing me to much to live in MD/DC...so I headed west for AZ...

2. Hate to break the news to you, but Elkton is a fairly ummmm |
|
how to put this delicately, "backward" area. The people in general aren't known to be open minded when it comes to racial issues. I think it's also a pretty Republican area. I have family that live there and I love them, but only in short quantities.
The nearby community college is affectionately known as "Red Neck Tech" if that gives you any indication.
However, we'd love to have you here in Purple Pennsylvania, just a stone's throw away from Elkton. Our taxes are fairly high, but you get a bit more house for your money and we have a good school system. Oh, and it helps to like horses where we live.
One major advantage to living in this area is that we are on a corridor between Philadelphia, Baltimore and DC so we can get our fill of city life without actually living there.

3. LOL maybe they need more people like me..... |

I did see a lot of bush stickers which automatically sets me off but I assumed it would be repug. My brother is one but I don't think he will be voting for shrub. I'm working on that. Thanks for letting me know it's more than just repug. I grew up in Delaware County PA so I am familiar with PA and that area. My brother had a house in Chadds Ford. My problem is that I need to be near the water for my sanity and it seemed to be reasonable. The taxes appear to be about what I am paying here. All in all it seems to be a wash except for employment for my wife. She's a dental assistant and I don't think they will pay her what she gets here and, unless my business grows dramatically, it would be a deal killer. We'll see. It just seemed like a pretty area. Thanks again.

5. The only thing I know about Elkton, MD |
|
is that it's the place to go in the tri-state area if you want a "quickie" marriage. You can get married in like a drive through thing or something like that.
