I had a date with an SUV driver! |
|
He drives a Toyota 4Runner. I was appalled! Should I dump him? (He's otherwise a great guy, and Pager hasn't exactly had great luck in the dating arena lately--or ever, for that matter!)

Is he a, ugh...Republican?? A Bush supporter?? Those are reasons to dump a guy!
Otherwise...owning an SUV in of itself isn't exactly noble...but, it isn't a reason to dump a guy. I say give him a shot!
I'm glad you're dating, sweetie. He's lucky to have met you. :-)

2. You're kidding, right? |
|
I have a friend with a 4-Runner. It gets better mileage than my American-made car.
Don't you think it a wee bit superficial to dump someone simply because you want to enforce flawed ethics on him?
Sorry if I am brash; I've had no sleep.

...of big-for-no-reason SUV's.
It was damn-near the offical truck of Houstonians when I lived in Texas.

Does he have a reason(work, weather, etc.) for owning it?

Go for it, girl! He's hardly likely to be another Newt Gingrich. A smidgeon of vainglory is human, anyway, pager. It may be pathetic in a way, but it's the kind of foible we're all liable to succumb to. I used to ponce around in cowboy-type boots I got from Fords when I was working for them here. In my early thirties, for crying out loud! As terrya said, if he's a Republican - at least a neo-con type, you *should* have serious misgivings, though, for your own welfare.

I thought that very wry exchange between you and some of the other women on here about Krugman was absolutely hilarious, Stephanie. Wit from all sides! "I want one just like him!"!!!! No, not me! I'm quoting you.

Stephanie, it's the feisty way you expressed your "consumer choice"! It's very sexy for blokes to read, because we like girls to take the initiative.
For one reason or another, my life wasn't oriented to make the most of my opportunities, such as they were, but I seem to have been more lucky in that regard than some of the lads here, who say they were just being played.
And, Suzie's hilariously tongue-in-cheek, "That IS so important...". How could any sister express a more touching sympathy!

8. I don't think so, not just because of that. |
|
Hopefully he has a reason for driving it? And I think the 4Runner's aren't as bad as other SUV's. They're not as big and they get better gas mileage, I think.
And if he seems like a great guy otherwise, maybe he's just misinformed? You could maybe approach it in a nice way, maybe he just doesn't know the damage they cause to the environment.
Besides, nice guys are hard to find. :) Thank goodness my sweetie is a liberal, but that wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me. Just my opinion!

Your not always so quick to throw away people. Do you know why he has this SUV? Yes, I have A 4-Runner, it gets better gas mileage that my husbands car. I keep it in top condition for better mileage. I bought it because I used to live in Santa Fe NM, I went to work BEFORE the snow plows (UP HILL) and I picked up half the lab, some were afraid of driving in the snow on those days.(IF you can drive on Texas black ice you can drive on anything.)
Is this a good person, kind, respectful, open minded and considerate. Are YOU being open minded toward him? Open up dear and enjoy the company, you don't have to marry him or buy the same car. Relax, have some fun! Take a deep breath and think of a really unique way to spend a day with him. I hope you have lots of fun!

27. well that just makes it tougher |
|
hey! if he's a nice guy and right for you and you are right for him, i don't think a 4 Runner should be an obstacle...if it goes THAT way, he can leave the wheels in Westchester, take the train in and you two could paint the town and walk or cab it! probably easier-i have a friend in the west 90s who leaves her Civic at mom's in Bronxville-she does everything on foot, by cab or subway and hey! if it does go THAT way, you could massage him out of that 4 Runner, and into something a little more eco-friendly...automotively speaking, of course!

There is no way you can fit your stuff and all the accoutremonts of three children into an SUV, he will have to get rid of it:)

But one does see lots of SUVs in Manhattan--huge ones! Few Hummers, thank goodness!
In his defense, it's very hilly there, and winters can be a bitch.

If his politics are right, then I'd say the fact that he drives a 4Runner isn't really a big deal. If it were a suburban or something, then you'd have a reason for concern.

An even half way decent guy is way too hard to find. Now if he is voting for bush, thinks zell miller is great, fox is a legitimate news source, stuff like that then dump his ass. (Even then I'd try to convert him first) Come back and tell us how the relationship progresses. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
