TBN's Promise: Send Money and See Riches (LA Times)

Pastor Paul Crouch calls it "God's economy of giving," and her is how it works:
People who donate to Crouch's Trinity Broadcasting Network will reap financial blessings from a grateful God. The more they give TBN, the more he will give them.

Being broke or in debt is no excuse not to write a check. In fact, it's an ideal opportunity. For God is especially generous to those who give when they can least afford it.
"He'll give you thousands, hundreds of thousands," Crouch told his viewers during a telethon last November. "He'll give millions and billions of dollars."

Join that "Praise-a-thon."

"Get Jesus on that credit card!"

"God spoke to me clearly and said, 'Did I give my son Jesus on the cross expecting nothing in return?" God bankrupted heaven and gave the best gift he could give...You can bring God a gift fully expecting something in return. Get to the phone!"

4. I am in despair that people are still falling for this bulls**t
I can't even understand why anyone WATCHES Crouch and crowd, much less sends them money. The "Gospel of Prosperity" has been around a long, long time, and has been exposed for the fraud it is over and over and over. And yet Crouch's "Praise-a-thons" continue to work the con and coin the bucks.

He, his ilk and that "Man of Faith" G.W. Bush have caused me to suffer a crisis of faith, seriously doubting many of the beliefs I have held since childhood. The deceivers who dare say God talked to them are especially troubling. "God bankrupted heaven?" Now if he'd only bankrupt Crouch and crowd, maybe some of my faith could be restored. That and removing Bush from the White House!

Meanwhile, I'm trying to stay focused:

BUSH MUST GO!!

6. These people have nothing to do with real religion
or with God. They are not worth having a faith crisis over. Their soul goal is to make money and live well.

If you are looking for the really religious people - you will find them helping the poor and the sick, not caring much what religion those people are. Not collecting money on TV!

8. Thank you for the reminder, Mary!
You are right--as I tell my agnostic spouse, don't judge Christ by Christians. Not supposed to be that way, but there you go!

I will seek to align myself with those who practice "true religion and undefiled" (as it says in the Bible) and let these charlatons face the consequences of their false religion. Their day will come!

Meanwhile, I will keep focused on this: BUSH MUST GO!!

Thanks again!

11. Usually they just get caught with hookers
and that's the end of them.

They should be in jail doing time for conning the innocent.

Beware anyone who calls themselves Christian and lives in a huge house and wears big, gold jewelry.

5. These people make me want to vomit
If anyone ever asks why the influence of organized religion is gradually fading (or maybe just becoming more concentrated), this kind of crap is why. It's no better than telemarketing scams that prey on the elderly.

7. When I was little my brother and I used to listen to
a TV Evangelist. We loved it when he put on people's heads, almost shoved them into the ground, and then yelled "Heal!" He got lots of money from poor little old ladies. I think those yokels have been around since the beginning of time.

Some people just want to get into heaven so much they are willing to do anything to get there.

10. These people are sick.
What's even sicker is that people are too gullible to send money to these two con artists.
