Apartment living and dumb landlords....... |
|
Had another chat with my landlord. :eyes: Made another complaint about noisy kids in front of the building in the morning. She thinks that is a petty complaint, after all, what is she to do about 100 screaming kids when many don't even live in this building? Is she a babysitter? No, I'm just registering a complaint.... :eyes:
I'm confused, we get a printed list of "rules" that everybody tries to abide by, and then people call (well, I have called many a time over the last few years, but the times I've called are getting fewer and fewer)the landlord and she gets all testy on them.
She says she doesn't like to have to listen to my complaints and I should know about apartment living and if I don't like it, maybe I should buy a house? :eyes: People have complaints about my pets for instance. Well, I would be happy to listen to them, I said. Oh, well they are petty just like your complaint so I don't listen to them.
Geez, I have no right to complain about things? I'm getting mixed signals..... :silly: I hate this woman now, don't you dare drag my pets into this mess.... She thinks I'm a complainer, I'm thinking she's a slacker who really cannot handle much......

2. There should be some resources you can get advice from |
|
Generally, you have a right to the "peaceful enjoyment" of the property you've leased, and if your LL allows conditions in your place to become unbearable it may constitute something called "constructive eviction" if you feel like you have to move out. My advice is to do all communications with your LL in writing (retaining a copy for yourself). Let them know politely, but firmly, that the current situation cannot continue. Try to find out if there's a Tenants Union in your area, or sometimes the local Legal Aid will have a free advice line for renters - they can let you know exactly what your legal rights are in your area.
Being a renter with a bad landlord is one of the most unjust relationships you can be in - so hang in there.

In my experience, some landlords don't understand what they're getting into when they buy a building or a house to rent. There are going to be complaints that have to be addressed. Bleck.

7. she's not the owner............... |
|
just the building manager......a dumpy wreck of a woman. God, she runs hots and cold.
Apparently leaking taps are not an emergency as well. :eyes: Uh, I work with the water company, leaking taps, even the tiniest of leaks, can lead to hundreds or thousands of dollars of costs. Does that serve the owner well? I just don't get what people can complain about or what they aren't supposed to complain about.

10. Yeah it is sort of a pain. |
|
I just had to call a plumber because my tenants kid flushed a sock down the toilet.
It's worth it though...

12. Oh hell yeah, you have to. |

I own the place though. I have to look after my property, and make sure my tenant is happy. The two go hand in hand.
Apartments are different. A lot of apartment managers are only there for the free or reduced rent, and the power trip that goes along with being in charge of something, and don't really care about what happens to the tenants outside of collecting the rent, because they do not have a personal stake in it.
In my experience though, the apartment complexes that are run by actual property management companies, are actually much better run.

13. I'll remember that when I move..... |
|
this bag lives in the building, of course, rent free. :eyes:
I'm so sick of running into mouthy deadbeat types...it's bad enough I have to work with slackers. ;)
those cheap shots about my pets....that rattles me. Sorry, my pet bird is a SWEETHEART, anyone who has attended to her or looked after her says she is such a loving, well-behaved little sweetie....and that smell? well, it was me trying to clean up the mess of the old refrigerator THEY put in the place. (long story: it's not frost free and it leaked all over the carpet, I spent my own cash cleaning up the mess) Don't blame my bun.
I've smelt odours (food odours) in this building that could knock you over they were that bad, but did I complain? She doesn't care and she doesn't do anything anyways.....she's a lazy bag....

5. Call the cops on the noisy kids yourself. |

And since she doesn't listen to "complaints" about your pets, you don't either.
I dunno, maybe I have low expectations, but as long at the heat works in the winter and the cool works in the summer and I have hot water and a place to shit, and I don't come home and find the door hanging open and my stuff gone, then I'm happy....
Oh, all right, I don't like hearing "Moaning Mona" cumming her fool head off through the wall, but C'est La Vie, the rent's cheap and hasn't increased in 5 years!

'Moaning Mona' - that might just embarrass her enough to stop being so loud!

I heard the other 2 occupants of the unit arguing one night about 11 PM, loudly. Seems the problem was Mona's stud pony (or her. Or both of them) were playing the stereo too loud. Now I had nasty step-kids at one time, so I developed selective hearing, so I just tune it out. But I heard the one guy yell "I dunno what the fuck his problem is, maybe he's deaf or something, but I ain't talking about him, I'm talking about YOU!"
Think they were discussing the fact that I wasn't out there getting a "piece of it" myself....
Life's too fucking short. They settled down before my bedtime anyway.
Civilisation. Yeah, we're "civilised", all right....:7
