agree that it's a beautiful movie with a message about war? And, that the utltimate goal for a warrior after fighting to fight, or fighting for revenge, once the lust for fighting leaves his or her heart the wish is to give up the sword and live in peace?

I had to see it twice because I had so many questions about the symbolism the first time and was too caught up in the breath taking beauty of the movie, the balletic action and all the symbolism of the visuals that I had a hard time reading the subtitles.

I'm glad I saw it a second time..might go back for a third.

1. Only saw it once
I recently took up Chinese martial arts (Northern and Southern Shaolin Kung Fu, Bagua, Tai Chi Chuan, Chin Na, . . .). I haven't learned enough to understand much, but I have learned that Chinese martial arts are poetry.

You might look into that if you want to understand more of the symbolism.

2. Only saw it once
thought it was beautiful. I was weirded out by the end justifies the means message. Apparently this story is told to chinese school children so they understand how important it is to sacrifice for the unity of China

3. I'm not well studied in Chinese culture.
I'd be interested to hear whether the varying color schemes during different portions of the tale hold any meaning.

6. Yes...I noticed that. Different segments of the story the characters wear
different colors. There so much symbolism, I got more the second time I saw it but still have questions...like the colors.

10. I think you have to see it numerous times
and think about the symbolism, I have seen it a number of times and each time I notice something different. My tai chi teacher is very enamored of this film and he was talking at length about the symbolism of the sword and it's connection with calligraphy. There are many political questions and questions about what a hero really is, and about perceptions of reality.

Gorgeous movie, nevertheless.
