"There is no pain, you are receding..." |

I can't believe it took me till college to realize how awesome of a band Pink Floyd is. Truly, one of the most gifted bands i've ever heard.
just occured to me all of a sudden.

Yep...there is little doubt that PF is one of the greatest progressive rock bands of all time. There are layers and layers of sophistication throughout their work.
I am impressed with how their work was so far ahead of their time. To this day, much of what they have offered is still being studied and copied throughout the world.
But...isn't the line:
"There is no pain you are receiving..."
?

He has it right.
"There is no pain, you are receding. A distant ship's smoke on the horizon."
edit: I screwed up the second line while trying to correct the first!

8. No, it's receding, as in |
|
There is no pain, you are receding A distant ship's smoke on the horizon (this is your clue that receding is the proper word, he's making an analogy between the person he's addressing and a ship disappearing over the horizon with it's hazy smoke vanishing as it goes) you are only coming through in waves your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
Basically talking about fading out of consciousness (in a manner of speaking).

7. Favorite lyrics of all time: (for me) - |
|
"When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse - out of the corner of my eye- I turned to look but it was gone - I cannot put my finger on it now - the child is grown the dream is gone." wow..."the child is grown, the dream is gone"....they need a word more profound than profound for that one line.

Lindsey...
I know exactly how you feel. Those are my favorite lines in the song (perhaps the entire album).
Another set of lyrics that are equally profound...
"Wish You Were Here"

"I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now" is better :)
At least in my overinflated sense of self-worth opinion :)
